Nash summed up where Lakers are right now this way: "All is not lost." He said enthusiasm and camaraderie are ...
positives for this team -- and in fact cited the "great attitude" as reason "we still have a chance to be a great team."

But Nash said even practice today here in January felt like training camp, with how much new material is being learned and the new connections between players still being made. Looking back at learning Mike Brown's system before adopting Mike D'Antoni's, Nash said: "We played a certain way for six weeks that doesn't translate at all to the way we're playing now."

I'm glad that Nash is optimistic. He is very right in some aspects. However I would figure that defensively their rotations would be better eventually especially given they had a defensive coach prior. But we'll see how we evolve :)

If we somehow land Dwight Howard AND Nash (which is one of the biggest reaches I've posted, don't think that will happen), then yeah...I have no problem with it, because Howard won't allow anyone to take Nash off the dribble 30+ minutes a game.

Well considering how few games he has played with the Lakers it could really feel like it's still training camp for him.

One team, one love, one goal !

Now that almost everyone in the Lakers are just starting to play together (except Blake obviously), Howard starting to become the Howard from Orlando, and Blake supposedly coming back mid-January, this is training camp, like Nash said.

From what I've seen, the Lakers are playing well. Defense needs to be worked on, though. Also, with the way the record is for the team, there is little room for error.

This is the right attitude to have. Since Nash came back they have looked considerably better with wins over New York and Golden State. Go Lakers.

Better, but they're victims of inconsistency the last few games. I guess that's inline with Nash's training camp statement.

More from Nash

"Because they fired Mike Brown, a month and a half of training and schemes that we went through was thrown away. So we need time to back in the swing of things in this system and having to learn a whole new way and whole new lineups which he(D'antoni) didn't have the benefit of a training camp or pre-season to iron out. But at the same time we need to realize that no team is gonna feel sorry for us either and I think we could have beaten either one."

Hes right.

No training camp and a new system, this should of been obvious and I'm sure it was stated before.

Of course ESPN isn't going to give us this benefit of the doubt when reporting about the lakers woes, and no team is going to feel sorry for us, but us fans have to stay patient. We're like 8 games back from a top 3 seed and while that seems like a ton now, watch by the end of the season how many teams end of bunched up together.

I was looking at the schedules of some of the teams ahead of us and I predict we will be a 6th seed by Feb 6

He is right, however, the Lakers have now effectively started their season -1 games and have spotted the rest of the NBA, the West and their division 31 games.

I remember people saying D'antoni's offense would get picked up rather quickly as well,
but the thing about that offense is its point guard oriented and well we lost our starter
and his backup shortly after.

Now we have Nash back, but for some reason the pick and roll isn't working.

I agree, because at least Phil would of brought back Rambis instead of hiring a family member of his who doesn't practice or preach defense.

Mike and Dan D'antoni...SMH

It would take "nash" a couple of minutes.

And the pick and roll works a lot when our bigs are aggressive with it.

We lost our last game because both bigs weren't aggressive off pick and rolls which made Nash hesitant to pass to them, which is why we didn't run pick and roll much cause Gasol was hesitant to shoot on open opportunities and Howard was reluctant to score.

But we ran pick and roll consistently against the Warriors and the Knicks especially down the stretch where they couldn't stop us.

If we somehow land Dwight Howard AND Nash (which is one of the biggest reaches I've posted, don't think that will happen), then yeah...I have no problem with it, because Howard won't allow anyone to take Nash off the dribble 30+ minutes a game.

And ya know what coach excels at teaching defense and an incredibly effective pick and roll?

Jerry Sloan.

No but Dwight sure is. You saw it against the Knicks and Warriors.

Dude I know you'll go on a long rant trying to justify everything again, but Sloan still makes more sense for this team.

Mitch and Buss apparently didn't think so. Did they even interview Sloan? just wondering

Of course not. But that doesn't mean they're always wrong if they do something the fans don't want.

Hated for letting go of Shaq and bringing in Odom
Loved for bringing in Ariza and Gasol within 2 years
Loved for bringing in Chris Paul
Hated for the season that followed after it was vetoed
Loved for bringing in Steve Nash and Dwight Howard
Hated for not hiring Phil Jackson.

Mitch and Buss deserve their own "love me or hate me" commercial like Kobe had.
