The Lakers (14-15) will retire Wilkes' No. 52 jersey at halftime when they host the Portland Trail Blazers (14-13) tonight at Staples Center, making him the eighth Lakers player to receive such consideration. On Jan. 17, the Bruins will retire his other No. 52 jersey. On Jan. 28, Wilkes will be honored for his jersey retirements at halftime when Santa Barbara High School visits Ventura High.

"I always played with great players. That was part of the criticism that some people held against me in the Hall of Fame," Wilkes said in a phone interview with this newspaper. "I always played in California. I don't think I was really appreciated by the East Coast establishment."

Meanwhile the Clippers are still looking to hang up anybody's jersey. Sorry, I had to take a shot at LAC as they continue their winning streak and the Lakers continue to play .500 basketball.

I have a question. For Clipper games, what happens to our banners and retired jerseys? Do they get removed? Covered?????

Nothing.

You can still see them. Considering that there are sixteen championship banners and a number of retired Lakers jerseys, lol. It's not that hard to miss.

Between Laker and Clipper games...the general stadium lighting in the stands is turned off for Laker games, but there are spotlights on the banners and retired jerseys. Clipper games will have that lighting on, but no spotlights on the banners (for obvious reasons)

The font of the name and jersey looks different than the rest. I'm not sure if they just don't produce retired jerseys the same as before or what, but his jersey definitely looks different.

Nonetheless, congrats to Silk.

Nah they are same. It was just the spot lightning that made his jersey seem different.

Congratz Wilkes, well deserved.

The lighting certainly affected the color of the jersey but the font appeared to be different from the rest.

I noticed the same thing too...the font and the numbering are slightly different from the rest, which were all produced at the same time before the Staples Center opened.

And slightly off-topic, but the last two title banners are slightly bigger than the rest which were all produced around the same time...more space around the border...

No it's legitimately different. Many reporters were saying it wasn't the lighting.

I wonder if they'll switch it out eventually with something closer. It could be something where it's a different company that makes the jerseys now

Yeah, absolutely unacceptable. They need to fix that as soon as possible. How could they be so unprofessional and not prepare for that or seemingly notice that ahead of time.

yo.

Well it might not be any fault of theirs. Like I said it might be a new company who does the jerseys.

I remember hearing that the original company who did those big jerseys went out of business. Wasn't sure if that was true but it seems legit now if that was the case.
