It's for rehab this is something Ive wondered why other NBA teams have not done, the MLB does it all the time it's smart these guys get a chance to get back in shape in real game situation against lesser competition I heard the Knicks are gonna make Iman Shumpert do the same thing when he's cleared to practice.

They just changed the rules to allow for it so that's why you haven't seen it before
