As I detailed in previous threads, I believe one glimmer of hope lies in the Lakers patiently awaiting Pau's return with Nash is that Kevin Love could be on the horizon. And not next year or the year after, but this year. Growing consensus from league executives are that Love is expendable and not worth the headache going forward. Kahn and crew knew this when they made the contract designation for 5 years available to Rubio and not Love. Rubio is their future, not Love. And you know who Rubio loves? Pau.

See below from the following article: http://sports.yahoo....-000418190.html

Kevin Love: Minnesota Timberwolves, 24, PF
Contract status: In first year of a four-year, $60 million contract. Can opt out after the 2014-15 season.
Buzz: In an interview with Yahoo! Sports NBA columnist Adrian Wojnarowski, Love recently questioned the direction of the franchise under owner Glen Taylor and general manager David Kahn. Love isn't happy about not getting a five-year maximum contract, and some teams might try to explore acquiring him from Minnesota.
"I don't think that's a match that is permanent in Minnesota," a rival assistant GM said. "I'm not saying they're shopping, but if they can get the right deal they would look at it. And I don't think he wants to be there."

Minnesota loves Jordan Hill, and will do anything to keep Rubio including taking on Pau Gasol. So how do the Lakers make this happen? Well by taking on Minnesota's bad contract in JJ Barea and sending out what would probably be Pau, Hill and possibly an Ebanks or Clark. To take back JJ, the Lakers would really need to move either Blake, Morris, or Duhon. So look for a 3rd team to possible be involved to make the deal.

He'd be a perfect fit for this team and Gasol would be really good for the Wolves in Adelman's system. I'd love to see it happen but wonder if the T-Wolves could get away with trading a younger PF for an older, injured one.

Gasol, Hill, and some not too bad contracts for Love and Williams? Dwight and Love as the centerpieces for years to come? Dreams sometimes do come true...

It would have to include Hill. MINN is too in love with Hill to not let him be part of the package. I really only think they care about Pau to appease Rubio.

But this is all contingent on a lot of other factors coming into play...like Pau not fitting in with Nash and D'Antoni. And Love continuing to fight with management. My only hope is that at the last Wolves home game, Love was getting Boo'd by the crowd at times...certainly not a good sign.

I posted this idea in the other Kevin Love thread ...

Here's my deadline idea ...

Atlanta gets:
Derrick Williams

Minnesota gets:
Jordan Hill
Josh Smith
Pau Gasol

Lakers get:
Kevin Love

Salaries are way off, but this is a solid template.

Minn is taking on way too much in that scenario/template. I think you have a better shot at getting someone like the Raptors/Bobcats involved to take on DWill and Duhon or Blake while sending back expiring contract like Jose Calderon to MINN.

Minn gets:
-Calderon
-Pau
-Hill
-1st rounder from Raptors

Toronto gets:
-DWill
-Blake/Duhon
-2nd rounder from Wolves

Lakers get:
Love
JJ Barea

Still a ton of speculation. I was thinking it could happen a little while ago but he went all PC with his comments a couple days ago and that usually means he wont demand a trade. Wish he had more leverage.

You have two 7-footers. Why not let them play on the blocks? Easy breezy, b****es!

I don't see that happening. Why would Minny take an old, declining player instead of hanging on to their young star who is a fan favorite? I know he doesn't want to be there, but that doesn't matter. He sells tickets, the T-Wolves will wait it out as long as possible before trading him, and when they finally do it will be for someone better and younger than Pau. Rubio/Love is a fantastic combo, they'll milk it as long as they can.

But this is just my opinion. Hope I'm wrong.

Minny wants Pau and Rubio to play in the same team

1) Love appears to be unhappy, and maybe they don't want to deal with that
2) Gasol only appears to be a declining player because of how he is used. If Phil were the coach he would be much better. He dominated Team USA in the Olympics.
3) More flexibility for the Wolves. Give Rubio/Pau a shot for a couple years and see what happens. Add a wing player like Smith in free agency and some shooters and you have a playoff team.

Again, not saying it will happen but we've seen worse deals.

That deal with Atlanta getting dwill and minny getting Pau, jsmooth, and hill is stupid. Why would Atlanta trade smith while they are a top seed in the east. At this rate jsmooth my actually resign.

I posted this idea in the other Kevin Love thread ...

There is no way that Atlanta trades Josh Smith for Derrick Williams. Absolutely zero chance. Unless there are some GREAT young pieces along with him. And Minnesota getting both Pau and Josh Smith would be ridiculous.
