In the past it was OK and necessary to micro manage each individual piece of the Lakers play to point out certain areas for improvement. As spoiled Lakers fans we love to make trade suggestions that would increase our teams strengths. Like trading an all star Pau Gasol for a different all star who's trending a bit more in his stats. But this year is different. Its not the small things. Its not only pieces of our game that breaks down (for example our perimeter defense costing us games or our pg getting blown by on dribble penetration every time). This years roster has micro issues. But its the macro problem that is the root of it all. Its the elephant in the room, so to speak. Its mentioned and we all know it. Our team symmetry is non existent. KB24 and D12 seem as compatible as water and vinegar. Two great players who excel in a system that allows them to dominate the ball. So our hailmary has become a 38 year old PG. People are waiting for Nash to take the court and magically solve the Lakers many bads. And he will solve some. His leadership and decision making will help. Its probably a blessing he's been on the sidelines to see this debacle. But Nash can't fix the teams identity crisis. Are we the pound it into the post and let D12 dominate the tempo and touches. Or are we still playing Kobe ball where he does whatever he wants as the #1 option? Who's gonna adapt so we can win? Not just talk about it but actually adapt? Be a superstar playing a supporting role. Regardless if we play inside out or vice versa we sure can't play both at the same time. Right now we have no identity. We have no game plan. I realize the many fan boy excuses. Some that are valid and others not so much. But the micro excuses don't address the macro problem of why we suck. That its likely KB24 + D12 = a - instead of a + like we had hoped.

Nash will fix a few problems and expose a few problems. He is a 38 year old, and his best years are in the past. He is better than what we are rolling out currently, but the Lakers problems go much deeper than a single player, a coach, a front office. They have made bad signings and given out long contracts to players who would never demand that much money. Now they are forced to live with their bad decisions. There is no trade, regardless of what you read on hoops hype. You watch these games. You think GMs don't. They know Pau is done, they know MWP can't play. Unfortunately there are only a few small tweaks the Lakers can make at this point. They do have talent, so maybe they can cobble something together. I'd be looking forward to 2014 when all their terrible contracts get off the books.
