It really is...... but it has yet to open in China and Japan still,  I read that they expect to actually make a little profit,  so I do think Pacific Rim 2 is coming.

it has to make at least 300 million foreign to get a sequel IMO. if it hits 400-450 million total it'll get a sequel.

I have a feeling this movie will slowly accumulate tons of money. Also the reason this didn't make a ton right off the bat is because its new. See movie like the avengers was being buzzed around since you saw the hammer at the end credits of Iron man. So that movie was easy to sell. This one came from no where. It will easily make a few more hundred mill I think.

Its also one of those movies that the whole world will like being that it involved major countries like russia, japan, etc. Pretty sure that was on purpose.

Here an example of a movie thats doing just what pacific rim is doing. Batman begins. It had a great cast of actors, good story and lots of action. The movie only made 48 mill in the first weekend(US). In the end it made 374 Mill world wide.

The sequel the dark knight then made an amazing 158 Mill in its opening weekend.

This is because everyone now knew the sequal was going to be a legit movie. So many batman movies have been made and quite frankly most are pretty corny and lame. Batman begins showed people that this was a good batman series.

Pacific Rim falls exactly into this category. This looked like some CGI action movie that was just going to be plain(though when I saw the first tralor for it over a year ago I knew this movie was going to be awesome). It turned out to be much much better. Though just like Batman Begins it will take time for people to realize this.

I think you will actually see sales on the movie stay at either a steady pace or increase a little bit but it will stay strong in movies for quite awhile.

It has yet to release in many major markets,  I'm not worried at all anymore.  So glad to see that everyone loves this movie for the most part......

Finally saw it last night, thought it was pretty good. Reminded me a lot of gundam of course. Only thing I didnt like was that so many jaegers that were hyped up to be really good, and then when it came to fighting they just got the crap beat out of them. The only one that actually really beat anything up was the main one.

Movie was good. GDT went ballistic on the cgi but it didn't have much of anything else. But let's not go crazy now. Some of you guys are making it out to be like movie if the year.

Domestic: $84,026,000 37.5%
+ Foreign: $140,000,000 62.5%

= Worldwide: $224,026,000

Doing good right now,  instead of slowing down it picked up a bit.  I still think we are getting a sequel.....

Why do people hate on CGI so much? How else could you do a movie like this?

^^ Never said I hate it. I actually loved it. But I would've love to see a battle during the day where the audience could get a better visual. And add a better script and I would've loved the film even more.

ITS UP TO CHINA TO CANCEL THE APOCALYPSE!!!!!

Hey bro you'll probably get a category 6 in the next movie so cut it some slack,  it was the battle at the portal which was under water.... no choice.  I wish we saw it more but in the end are we all not satisfied with the message the movie wanted to deliver?  Robots vs Monsters? I say [expletive] yes!

transformers-movie-wallpaper-original-12

And where did Transformers originate?

I'm just saying that this type of [expletive] isn't as big a cultural staple here in America as it is in Asia

That's what we have NASCAR, monster trucks, and fast food for.. [expletive] yeah...

Transformers did well because everyone knew about it. It wasn't an unknown thing. Lots of us grew up on transformers. Pacific rim is new. It will take time to convince people that its good. The movie is keeping at a good pace and everything they make is profit right now. If they were to make a sequel(that was just as good) and created a better hype for it then this movie could easily make half a bill if not more.
