Yep, I definitely recall those slight drops in athleticism with Kobe right around when he turned 30, followed by even larger drops as the years went on.

[size=3]This thread got pretty quiet during the Cavs' 8 game winning streak. It probably ends tonight with Lebron sitting out with a sore knee. Windhorst had an interesting column today about Lebron's declining athleticism. Even with losing half a step, Lebron is still the best player in the game.

Definitely an impressive streak involving beating the Wizards and Raptors twice. No Western teams though, can they beat any of the top 6 Western teams? My bet is that they'll lose the season series to most top Western teams.

Or split them since they only get 2.

even if you say there are only 4 top western teams, doubt they go 0-8 for all 4

Praying for 1. Kobe's Health (looks pretty good so far), 2. High Draft Pick (Randle...injured game #1.*sigh*) 3. Miracle Trade (Not yet), 4. Quality Free Agent (Boozer, kind of, Davis, nice upside!), 5. Brilliant Coaching Hire (Byron!...but the jury is out)

We don't see chase down blocks from Lebron anymore. He rarely hustles back in transition defense anymore, and looks to be practicing some of Wade's self-preservation techniques.

Doesn't help Blatt was playing him 40 mins a game.

I guess people assumed that LeBron's "explosiveness etc" would continue to last till his mid 30s.  It doesn't.  He's slowing down at the age most players slow down at, problem is he never worked on his game beyond his athleticism or being stronger than everyone else.

That's why you see the drop off in his game.  He's still "there" but not "THERE" anymore.  Not unless he's forced to be.   Blatt is counting on him to be such, dunno if he wants to be pushing him that hard going for his 4th straight finals and tired enough as it is.

That's what's intriguing, LeBron used to get peeved about Dwade getting all those days off and the organization caring more about his preservation than LeBrons. He's already complained about his minutes this season, I think the coach has to do something about that.

1.Only player in NBA history to quit because of Air Conditioner.
2.Quit on his team the year after he promises a championship.
3.Dunked on by a high school kid then confiscates the tape.
4.Bail on the dunk contest 9 times.
5.Only able to win a ring with 2 superstars.
6.Play on same team as his moms boyfriend.
7.Average 1.8 pts in the 4th quarter of NBA finals.
8.Lose not 1, not 2, but 3 times in the Finals.
9.Host a national televised TV show to leave his team.
10.Go 2 for 18 in an NBA playoff game.
11.Get stuffed by a player under 6 feet. (Nate Robinson)
12.Flop every single game in the playoffs.
13.Choke 4 out of 5 finals games by dropping FG% by 18.
14.0 Rings if not for refs calling early fouls on Durant and Westbrook it threw them out of rhythm, made them play soft, and sit for big parts of the game which changed the flow and momentum of the finals.

Lol that list is corny, the man is one of the 10 greatest players ever to play and he's only 29 on a team primed to contend for years. Just better accept it

Lebron is still the best but his legs are going. He's definitely not what he was 2 years ago. But no 29 year old is ever who they were at 27

That streak how now been losing 3 of the last 4.  Culminating with a 127 - 98 drumming at the hands of the Atlanta Hawks.

Defense wins championships.  If you get no defensive players and focus only on what you could do offensively, you will have problems.

Worrying that the Cavs don't have a signature win yet. They've had some games where they look great on offense, but I don't remember a game where they dominated on defense. Where all five guys commit 100% to shutting the other team down.

Varajeo looks washed. Their best perimeter defender is 37. I don't think Love knows how to defend a player in the low post. They look like a second round exit right now.

At 29, Bron should still be in his physical prime for another 2-3 years.

yet he's not.

My dad has been pretty much on the mark when he said those years ago that LeBron would see a significant drop in his late 20s.

But that goes back to him thinking LeBron was on something since his high school days and said his body is gonna flame out earlier than it would have under natural circumstances.

LeBron's sudden weight loss and subsequent drop in his game as his body seems to be betraying him is starting to come up.

Blatt was smart to not play him in the 4th or it would have been another 40 minute game for LeBron who at times this year for the first time I've ever seen, halfway through games LeBron desperately waving to Blatt to take him out of games because he is too tired at that time.

It's not a good sign all around for a guy who also is going for his 4th straight finals and nearing the end of all those 'advantages' he used to have over people.

When your game is predicated solely on your strength and athleticism, the flaws start to rear their heads late in your career if you didn't put in the time to actually refine your game(like Jordan, and like Kobe did).

LeBron, did not and has not aside from one off-season visit to Hakeem years ago and he hasn't been back since.

Now he has to carry this Cavs team with no defenders and probably feels like he felt the first go-round with Cleveland. But with the names Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving there can't be a complaint he has no one. But the team is flawed.

They are massively flawed. Especially on defense and their offense isn't good enough to cover that up. Any team with LeBron on it should waltz through the eastern conference. When your two other best guys are Kyrie and Love who have done nothing but lose at near record levels their entire pro career and fill up stat sheets and surround those guys with nobodies, this is what you will get. LeBron is by far the best player in the game and a champion. The guys around him have done nothing but lose.
