I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come."

I think Kobe enjoys these records so much that he won't hang those shoes for quite a while provided he is healthy and wins one more title either this season or in the next one. He likes shutting people up, and his ultimate challenge is to dethrone Jordan. He can do that by having played more (longevity, which he already has) , rings (equal or more) and the key point to solve all the riddle : Kareem's record. If he can accomplish the other two things, everybody will accept him as the Greatest. It's the perception. And he can only change it little by little until he levels it up. The way he is playing right now, I would say he has 3-4 more efficient years ahead.

If he continues the pace (28 PPG) this season, he'll end up with around 31,780 points to end the season.

From there, he'll be 6,607 points behind Kareem.

That's just four seasons of 20.1 PPG...and Kobe would be around 38-39 years old when he reaches the mark (at that pace...I can't assume he'll average 20 PPG in the next 2-3 years, either...he's better than that).

It's in reach.

Congrats to the Mamba on cracking 30K...I'm starting to think he may play beyond his current deal with the record in reach, especially if Dwight stays and the FO can put together teams that are competitive.

LakerNation has more members and more activity (in regards to members online), and it's not even close at this point. I've intentionally kept the community small over at my other board...but possibly too small, to where I want more activity now, lol.

When I put this board up, the idea was to bring in anyone and everyone, and even if it wasn't that way, it's much easier to do with a one-team site. Too many fights break out on 30-team sites.

But, OTR (well...now DiscussHoops) has been around for nearly eight years now, and more posts than LN by a mile...just not on the current board because of a hack, and also not reflected in the additional numbers you see in the stats due to a couple of times where I was pruning (deleting) old topics, so I could stick with a cheaper host, back when I didn't know any better.

What an awesome milestone our guy has reached. Yes he's always been talented buy if he didn't have his drive & work ethic, I don't think he'd still be in the game. I don't see him pulling a Karl Malone & short changing himself on the all-time scoring record if he gets within striking distance.

Not for nothing but kudos to ESPN & NBA TV for covering this special moment. I know the game wasn't on either channel but they've talked at great length about it. Heck, even the commish was in NO to witness it.
