What do you think about Kobe's defense?

Can't be both. Either he spends all his energy shutting his man down or he uses more of his energy on the offensive end. Which one do you want?
Dude has played way too much basketball since 1996 and it's almost unfair to expect him to give us 30/5/5 AND play great D.
A younger Kobe, yes, he'd give us 35 and not roam so much on D, a 34 year old Kobe can't do it like he used to.
I'd like to see him at least close out on shooters more and cut back on gambling for steals or just completly losing track of his man, but it is what it is.

We're not asking to shut his man down. We're simply asking to stop gambling on D and stop losing track of his man.
Then why don't you tell the help defenders to switch on the wing while he's fighting through 2 screens rather than just standing still?
The only way Kobe gets to his man at that point is bulldozing someone and that's a foul on him.

If we somehow land Dwight Howard AND Nash (which is one of the biggest reaches I've posted, don't think that will happen), then yeah...I have no problem with it, because Howard won't allow anyone to take Nash off the dribble 30+ minutes a game.
You should reach more often

We're not talking about screens. Jesus you guys can't handle it when some one criticizes Kobe. He is roaming on D. Do you understand what roaming means?

I wonder why he roams.

yeah but tonight's problem had nothing to do with his "roaming"

Yes it did. He left shooters open all night which caused his teammates to help out which screws the rotation.

what does it mean if you did?
"It means nothing" -Kobe

I would rather have Kobe spend less energy on offense and not have to shoot 31 times a game if it means he has more energy for D
That wont happen until Nash is back.

but he cant right now... because the offense is crap.

Just wish he wouldn't leave them completely wide open is all.

The offense was less crap when he was getting 8-9 assists a game by setting other people up and not shooting over 25 times a game. We barely even give Dwight the ball either. He needs touches and he'll get up 20+ points a night on 9-10 shotsbut he cant right now... because the offense is crap.

I get what you mean and he should roam less no doubt about it but it's not a simple "Kobe doesn't respect his opponent on defense" like some of you guys are saying. His teammates are to blame for their [expletive]ty defense and lack of energy on that end of the floor as well.Man some of you just don't understand. No one is asking him to play lock down D. Just contest his man and rotate accordingly.

All of these things go away if the Lakers are able to make early stops in the first place. Kobe would be able to stay on his man by not needing to help out inside.
The Lakers have too much of a need for help D. In fact, they have a need for help help D and even help help help D because of the lack of speed on this team.

I agree. We need a defensive scheme a la Tom Thibodeau's Bulls.

We got torched by Gary smith or whoever the [expletive] joe schmo that was and toney Douglass (Duhon and DMo's man) tonight. What was it like 60 bench points for Houston? Geez!
