The logo is a lot better than the name, that's for sure. It'll probably grow on us though. I thought Oklahoma City Thunder sounded bad the first time I heard it, but it stuck.

It's named after a very old baseball team from New Orleans also called the Pelicans.
Go read the history, the name actually makes sense for the area.

At first I thought it was a weird name but it makes sense for them.
Btw, in case anyone was wondering, there were five names that were filed trademarks by the NBA: Pelicans, Rougarou, Mosquitos, Swamp Dogs and Bullsharks.
Pelicans were the best out of those 5 IMO

Since New Orleans is so long, it has to be a name with just one syllable like the New Orleans Saints for example so it can roll off the tongue more smoothly.
