Here's a profile on Johnny Davis for those who don't know who he is.

johnnydavisgettyimages.jpg

College - Dayton

While the 2011-12 season marks Johnny Davis’ first in the Raptors organization, overall it will be his 36th campaign in the NBA where he has been a player, assistant coach, front office executive and two-time head coach.

Last season was Davis’ fourth with the Memphis Grizzlies and his 19th in an NBA assistant coaching capacity. In addition to Memphis, Davis has been an assistant coach with Atlanta, the Los Angeles Clippers, Portland, New Jersey, Orlando, Minnesota and Indiana. In 2005-06, he served on Raptors head coach Dwane Casey’s staff with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Davis was the head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers in 1996-97 and the Orlando Magic for parts of two seasons (2003-05) compiling a 73-146 mark (.333). He was honoured as Eastern Conference Coach of the Month in November 2005 while with the Magic. He also served two games as the Grizzlies’ interim head coach.

Davis also has experience on the administrative side of the NBA having spent three years in the front office of the Atlanta Hawks. His duties were director of community affairs, assistant to the president, and president of the Atlanta Hawks Foundation. During his tenure as president of the Atlanta Hawks Foundation, Davis was instrumental in the fundraising of more than $500,000 which was distributed to Atlanta area homeless shelters.

The 22nd overall pick in the second round of the 1976 NBA Draft, Davis played with Portland, Indiana, Atlanta and Cleveland in his 10 seasons. He was a member of Portland’s 1977 NBA Championship team. He played in 750 regular season games, averaging 12.9 points and 4.5 assists. He posted a career high 18.3 points per game in the 1978-79 season as a member of the Indiana Pacers. In 43 postseason outings, Davis contributed an average of 10.3 points and 3.7 assists.

Davis attended the University of Dayton from 1973-76 and was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame in 1993 as well as being voted onto the university’s All-Century Team. He earned two gold medals as a member of the 1975 Pan-American Team and the 1975 Intercontinental Cup Team.

As a heavily recruited high school All-American basketball player from Detroit, Davis was voted as one of the Top 10 players of all time in the Detroit Public School league.

Davis has a bachelor’s degree in community development from Georgia State University and a master’s degree in sports psychology from Union Institute and University.

An avid golfer, Davis has recorded three hole-in-ones.

Davis and his wife, Lezli, have two sons: Reginald and Austin.

Adrian Wojnarowski         @WojYahooNBA

Kurt Rambis has emerged as a strong candidate to join Mike D'Antoni's coaching staff with the Lakers, league sources tell Y! Sports.

and this update

Darius Soriano @forumbluegold

Rambis also worked w/ LA's big men before he moved on to Minnesota. He could replace Person in that role on this staff.

Looks to me in addition to bringing in Phil guys they are bringing in people familiar with Dwight.

I didn't know much about him other than coaching Dwight and being close friends with Lionel Hollins whom is another available coach and believer in post players.

Bump.

MDA brought the same sort of turmoil to the Lakers as he did with the Knicks.

The Knicks immediately improved once there was a coaching change. They may not win a ring, but it's much better than the .500 ball they were playing under MDA.

They improved for about 10 games.  After that fast start they got worse, and Woodson looked as inept as D'antoni at times and their defense fell to pretty much on par with us and he still ran Carmelo into the ground despite having Copeland in the games and would often sit Copeland after he hit a few shots and put in Carmelo while keeping Stoudamire in in the playoffs.

The Knicks didn't immediately improve, they got a temporary spark and then fell back into what they were just with better three point shooters and a 6th man off the bench.  But unfortunately coaching wise Woodson looked just as inept as D'antoni a majority of the time.

MDA is jumping for joy seeing that he only have one center left.  Remember he said that the post game is the worst basketball plays ever.

MDA is an offensive genius. I hope he sticks to his guns and keeps doing what he does best: Run and Gun. That's the only way to coach.

It really is astounding that this asshat cost us D12.

He should have been fired the day after the sweep by the Spurs. Lost 15 of his last 16 playoff games. Rubs people the wrong way wherever he goes. Fired in 3 places. Worst coach in the NBA, BY FAR.

I'm pretty sure that the Knicks' lackluster play during MDA's final few months was 100% due to Carmelo.  As in Carmelo not putting any real effort to win games.  As soon as MDA was gone, Carmelo starting playing for real again... and surprise! Knicks start winning again.

Saw the same thing last season with Deron Williams and Avery Johnson.  Superstars can get their coaches fired without ever having to issue an ultimatum.
