I want to beleive it's a phil hiring too but....

"...a person with knowledge of the situation said Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni is adding former Lakers forward Mark Madsen as an assistant coach."

That is standard PR language.  Nothing more.

They could've just said the Lakers. I'm not leaning one way or the other, I'm just beyond ruling out anything at this point.

I have this nightmare the other day that Lakers end up having a 7 game winning streak during next season and because of that MDA won the coach of  the week or some stupid award. Lakers then decided to give MDA an extension. .

MDA is an offensive genius. I hope he sticks to his guns and keeps doing what he does best: Run and Gun. That's the only way to coach.

Agree with GCMD on this.

Like it or not, the Clippers made this situation worse for the Lakers.   The Clippers are doing the things necessary to keep Chris Paul, which Dwight Howard sees and he wants to feel that power as well.

he should be more vocal and less "silent and watchful" then.  CP3 made things happen and was vocal about what he wanted to happen, Dwight seems content to sit and wait.

Then again, the Lakers HAVE been in "constant discussions" with Dwight since the season ended, he MAY be telling them the things he wants and it not getting out in the media.

Just cause the internet hasn't reported it doesn't mean moves aren't happening.

How vocal can D12 get when he said that he doesn't like MDA system and sources even said he told that directly to mitch?  And if you think D12 doesnt say that, why is it all out there? Even if its just D12 people who says it, it all comes from D12.  So D12 didnt just sit there and do nothing.  And how do you know CP3 is making all this request? I didnt hear anything about CP3 says he want Del Negro to be fired?  So Dwight did do more than CP3. The lakers just doesnt want to hear it.

Exactly. It's like when people say "All we're doing to keep Dwight here is put up a billboard that says #STAYD12.".

Umm, how do you know that's all we're doing? Do you work for the Lakers? Are you Mitch or Jim? No? Then what you think we're doing or not doing doesn't really matter without any proof.

Nobody wants to be on his staff, because he is a lame duck.

My cousin told me that his NBA 2k13 game simulated MDA as coach of the year after he led LA to a 54-28 record. Hilarious

I know the lakers will lose money by firing MDA but they are about to lose a lot more if they dont fire him and dwight leaves. Not too many people are gong to want to pay hundreds of dollars to watch a sub .500 team play.

Kurt Rambis has emerged as a strong candidate to join Mike D'Antoni's coaching staff with the Lakers, league sources tell Y! Sports.

With Kurt Rambis possibly emerging as a strong candidate for assistant coach, things are starting to get interesting.

If Phil is pulling the strings. Who's next? Scottie Pippen? Ron Harper?

I assume you don't think Jim makes good ownership moves.

No not that. It was reported that he doesn't want to hire anybody that has a connection with Phil. That's why he didn't care for B. Shaw's interview for the job and B. Shaw criticize how he treated him. Phil warned him not to mention him to Jimmy Boy during the interview.

I guess it's probably just the pain of last season and MDA above all. Besides MDA, the decisions he has made were solid, they just turned out flawed in some way. Nash, Bynum, and Dwight were big time moves, but something always went wrong.

because of Kobe and Gasol. Bynum had little to do with it.
