I was REALLY hoping that when D'Antoni stepped in last year, he would try and bring Nate McMillan with him as a defensive coach. That won't be happening now since Nate is likely going to Detroit for the head coaching job.

He shouldn't be 'considering'.

Just do it.

Why would McMillian be an assistant, I never thought that could happen. Scott Skiles on the other hand.

I don't know why this makes those of us who dislike trashtoni uninformed. A defensive assistant doesn't help his bad rotations, poor offensive schemes, and bad interpersonal skills.

We went 28-12 in the last 40 games and only lost twice at home in those 40.

That's all Mitch cares about.

And We'd have gone 30-10 if Pau wasn't terrible while getting re-acclimated after being out for so many games.

Mitch as he has said before gave D'antoni a break in the first half of the season for trying out new things and seeing if he'd change his system.  If D'antoni hadn't listened to Kobe and kept trying to implement his system he'd be gone right now and we wouldn't have made the playoffs.

But the strong close to the season is why D'antoni is still here.,  Rest assured if he kept trying to force his offense on the guys we wouldn't have made the playoffs for one, and he'd have been fired for two cause we'd have stayed in the 10th ranking and possibly even dropped further.

mostly because of Kobe.

Alvin Gentry? I like Alvin but his Suns teams played absolutely no defense, just like MDA's Suns teams.

LOL @ the Lakers trying to become the Suns. What a joke of an organization.

Alvin Gentry isn't a defensive-minded coach. The man failed to use Marcin Gortat properly (as a defensive anchor) in Phoenix.

Real Deal, what do you think about Scott Skiles?

Skiles is a very good defensive coach, but extremely bad with egos...so I'm not really sure how well he'd fit in here. That's not exactly questioning how he would work out under Kobe, Howard, and Artest, but more about how he would be able to coach UNDER Mike D'Antoni, who has the biggest ego in Los Angeles.

He would be best with a team like Denver, a mix of young players and vets with no superstars. The man lost complete control of the Bucks, all because of Jennings and Ellis, and even as an assistant, I'd hate to go through another season of turmoil here.

I hope he doesn't hire Gentry as the defensive assistant. That's not going to do a whole lot.

It shouldn't have taken this long to realize he needed a defensive minded assistant, but at least he's making the right move now.

If  any pervious head coach that is unemployed and wants another shot should consider being this morons defensive coach. They probably could come in here knowing that this guy  already has one foot out the door and the moment he [expletive]s up they could have a chance as an interim.
