Yes. Fire him. I'm more calm about KB's Achilles injury now. I have move past shock, anger and depression and in a moment of clarity I do believe MDT is partially to blame. Not fully but he is guilty for his actions or lack there of.
MDT's failure to rest Kobe played a role in the injury occurring. Its not the sole reason but the large minutes compounding game after game definitely contributed.
For example if you have tires that are rated to 50k miles and you have about 45k miles on them, you know the probability of the tire popping increases when day after day your driving around on them as hard and fast as you can.
It doesnt matter if Kobe tried to resist rest time under MDT. Its MDT's responsibility to tell KB to stfu and fine him for not listening to his coach. Kobe would have been pissed and whined about it, but later would have respected MDT for stepping up and sticking to his decision.
Kobe resisted bench rests under PJ to. But at the end of the day I remember Kobe sitting the first 3-4 minutes of every 4th quarter in close games and up to 7 minutes if we had a decent lead.
Granted we've had many close games where it would seem unlikely to extract your games best player. But as a head coach you must figure out ways to work around a smaller problem in efforts to avoid a larger one. And the fact we only had a 7 man rotation during many games shows the lack of effort in attempts to discover a solution. And that is a example of a coach not trying to make his team better.
Give him the axe as soon as the season is a wrap.
