How FO deal with MDA is really going to set the tone for the next few years. If they keep him it shows they are just content with being a bottom playoff team and coasting on kobe. If they get rid of him then maybe that shows they are willing to put some real effort into this team.

I just can't see what the lakers reasoning could be to keep him. Their is no future with him. No matter the injuries he has shown he can't control a team, can't give players roles, and can't get anything but average play from his players.

His late season success last season was from a total overhaul of the offensive and defense strategy that goes completely against how he coaches. Also having kobe go 45+ mins a night and having to shorten his career to just get into the playoffs.

They don't care about the money aspect.

May use it as an excuse though.

I agree, but it's an excuse everyone knows to be a lie. They weren't scared to fire Mike Brown when they were at a team salary over $100 million, so they definitely cannot say they are scared of $4 million from MDA

Then why else would they even think about keeping him, unless they want the team to do badly again to get a high draft pick?

There is no way they don't know that he is incapable of taking this roster anywhere.

As many have reported already, they don't want to be seen as a franchise who just hires/fires coaches in a short time span to rest of the league.

That is completely their fault though and the team/fans should not have to suffer because of ignorance and pride.

I feel like any prospective coaches would understand after this season we just had.

But okay then.

You would think so, but coaching is a job.

If you were looking for a job and you had a chance to go to a company but you know that they just fired two people in the same position you wanted in less than a 3 year span, you would be worried too.

Unfortunately, it is going to backfire against the Lakers regardless because whoever the next coach ends up being, they are going to want to be paid a little extra for their time.

The one thing I do hope is that if they do fire him, be quick about it. No reason to even way longer than 24 hours after the last game. I can't see how the next 8 games can make any difference in their decision.

I will be dearly disappointed if a special invitation to Vince McMahon isn't handed out for it.

Even in a terrible season, you hope as a fan that at least some good comes out of it. That's looking less and less likely.

There's a pretty good chance they won't have a high enough draft pick to get a big difference maker in the upcoming draft. They're going to keep an awful head coach. They owe 2 future first round picks. 33 mil in cap room will be tied up for 2 old players next year, and 25 mil for Kobe the year after that.

I feel bad for people who are expecting good things from this team any time soon. I understand that all teams rebuild at some point, but they've put themselves in position that doesn't allow themselves to do that cleanly. It kind of reminds of the Raiders.

Wouldn't bat an eyelid if they did keep MDA. Nothing is shocking or surprising anymore.

Well, if I was going to get paid millions regardless, I think I'd take my chances on coaching one of the most recognizable teams on the planet. I see what you're saying though.

Maybe a younger/less established HC wouldn't command extra money for the lack of security. Not like it really matters if MDA coaches next season though. It's going to be awhile before this team is a possible contender.

Excuse me for bringing this up, but should we consider Derek Fisher as a choice for the next coach?
