But it's part of the game. And it must remain, as it will encourage future big men to develop their shooting at a young age.

As a Laker fan, I hate it personally.
But it's part of the game. And it must remain, as it will encourage future big men to develop their shooting at a young age.
And then call them soft because they prefer the easier method of scoring.

Quite amazing really, him not hitting them in the first game of the season is what cost us that game(well we all missed) but Dwight conquered those demons today.
If we somehow land Dwight Howard AND Nash (which is one of the biggest reaches I've posted, don't think that will happen), then yeah...I have no problem with it, because Howard won't allow anyone to take Nash off the dribble 30+ minutes a game.
You should reach more often

And maybe it is just me, but after a game like this, I feel like Dwight has really matured since a few weeks ago. Dwight got up only 7 shots and 9 points. A few weeks ago he would be unhappy about his lack of touches, but now he is all smiles and giving props to guys like Kobe and Nash. When asked about Kobe after the game, Dwight said it was "fun" to watch him. Good sign for the offseason and the rest of this season. Dwight didn't allow his rough shooting night affect how he played defense.

Mike D’Antoni not Worried about Hack-A-Dwight
http://blacksportson...-hack-a-dwight/
By now, Dwight Howard’s struggles at the free throw line have been well documented. Currently shooting a career low 48% this season from the charity strike, Dwight’s performance at the line has been abysmal.
Many have wondered whether or not head coach Mike D’Antoni would consider sitting Dwight late in games to avoid him being fouled. If you ask D’Antoni, that isn’t an option.
Per LA Times:
“I’m not taking Dwight out. He’s too valuable. You take him out, like when they did hack-a-Shaq at the end … then defensively we can’t stop anybody,” said D’Antoni. “He’ll make his foul shots. I’ve got faith in him. If everybody plays hard and if that’s how we go down, then we’ll go down that way.”
On plays where the team needs a three, D’Antoni isn’t concerned about Howard getting caught with the ball — and sent to the free-throw line.
“
We know how to get around that,” he said. “That’s not a big deal.”

they should just go back to the younger leagues and call it an intentional foul... give the player the 2 free throws (he was fouled) but the team get's possession after the free throws as well.

I'm not sure how accurate this is, but if the opposing team is shooting 50% and Dwight is making 50% of his FTs then it's a wash.
2 possessions per team nets:
Opposing team makes basket (100% FG) + 2 pts
Dwight makes 1/2 FTs (50% FT) + 1 pt
Opposing team misses basket (50% FG)
Dwight makes 1/2 FTs (50% FT) + 1 pt
Of course there's other contributing factors on how effective Hack-a-Dwight is within the moment of the game, but simplifying it like this shows it's not a fool-proof way to win.

Dwight has 19 free throw attempts... This "hacka dwight" strat is the dumbest thing I have ever seen, they need to make a rule where if you foul a person off the ball and the team is in the penalty the team has the choice of choosing who to shoot the free throws. This game became boring as [expletive] in the last 4 mins.... 19 damn free throws at half time for 1 player??
It's not dumb, it's strategy. You should be mad at Dwight for missing so many gimmies instead.

Its taking advantage of a stupid rule really. It ruins the game. This is not entertaining basketball.
and no [expletive] its strategy me calling it dumb is me venting my frustration, however dwight will be dwight his not a good free throw shooter I dont expect him to suddently hit 70%

^ Whether you admit it or not, hypothetically speaking, if Dwight were on the Heat and it was our only or best chance of beating them, I'm pretty damn sure you'd feel a lot differently.

hack a dwight benefits the lakers. it allows kobe and nash to get free throws easier. i don't hate it. it bites us sometimes but i think it's positive as long as dwight shoots 50% or higher

well that was an enjoyable free throw practice

To be fair though, none of those free throws really came in any super tense clutch close-game situations though so Dwight could definitely breathe pretty easily.
