250K is a bit too much just for sitting out their best players even though it was the only game they will play each other

Stern was right. Fine is justified. This is a business before a sport. Players are simply products that people, TV advertisers, sponsors, etc pay to see. And when everyone pays money to see a certain product they expect to get their moneys worth. When the product is not there because of strategy decisions by the coach/franchise its basically ripping people off.

then why teams arent fined at the end of the season? or when tanking?
miami rested their big 3 against boston last season and they weren fined... this is a business as much is a sport, ginobili doesnt sell, lebron and wade does

i understand the fine, but still makes the league bad...the more they outright prove its about making money first, and basketball second, the more believable things like refs rigging games, and the rigged draft w/ ewing to the knicks are

LMAO, I only slightly wish it said Stern on the back instead of Crawford. ;P Regardless, it could be doctored, but it's kind of hard to tell. Hopefully they don't get fined for that, just Halloween....

The San Antonio Spurs' bad week just got a whole lot worse.

Days after commissioner David Stern fined the team $250,000 for sitting its star players during a nationally televised game with the Miami Heat, a less-than-pleasant photo of Tim Duncan and Tony Parker has surfaced online that is sure to cause the organization another headache.

The image, which first appeared on Reddit, appears to have been taken on Halloween.

It shows Parker and Duncan, both in costume, pointing toy guns at the head of a man dressed as NBA referee Joey Crawford.

Crawford can be one of the league's more controversial referees, and once he even ejected Duncan from a game while the Spurs big man was on the bench. The league suspended Crawford for the incident.

Lightning appears to have struck the Spurs twice in the span of a few days, which is somewhat surprising for a team that has managed to avoid negative press during coach Gregg Popovich's tenure.

Spurs are the best NBA franchise... a small market team that gets it...

No wonder they are the target of David Stern and his mafia hitmen (refs)
