I understand hinesight is 20/20 but I'm interested to know who you think we should have got over the last two off seasons and or who we should have kept. ie. Aaron Brooks and Trevor Ariza . The WHO WE SHOULD HAVE GOT had to have been an Unrestricted FA and fit in our wonderful salary cap ..... There clearly were some misses after watching last season and the beginning of this season.... seeing as to how MWP helped us win a ring, I would say that choosing to part with Ariza was a positive.
but a player like Ariza - an ultra-athletic, defensive minded wing who can hit an open jumper and cuts hard to the basket, is just what we need on our current team.

i never said we should have kept Ariza, nor am I mulling over the fact. i clearly said us choosing MWP over Ariza was a positive.
i said that an athletic wing is what we need right now, and Ariza happens to be an athletic wing

yeah he did, but MWP also did, so you can't really say anything except that it was a positive move.
I honestly would've preferred to keep Ariza, but not at whatever price he and his agent were pining for.
People might argue that Ariza wouldn't have been able to body up Paul Pierce in the following year's finals, but he did an admirable job against Melo in the WCF in 08/09, i don't see why he wouldn't have been able to.

No he didn't. Kobe was forced to guard Melo and Billups at certain points of that series because Ariza and Fish were getting abused. Ariza got hot at the right time in the playoffs, hit the 3 ball at a nice clip and came up with big defensive stops in key series. But ever since then, he has fallen off the map. His FG% has been abysmal and he isn't close to the player he was while playing in P&G (especially the playoffs).

Really the Lakers made pretty good decisions for the most part. MWP was a fine signing at the time, the only thing I didn't like about that was we should have given him a 3 year deal vs. 5 years, but whatever. The only real problem I had was the Lakers selling draft picks for cash when they shouldn't have and some things that went down last season.
