One thing I am truly jealous of the Clippers is how their offense works. I'm sure all of us will agree that their offensive game plan is pretty much garbage. Chris Paul is so good that he makes it work. If they didn't have their shooters lighting it up, they wouldn't have those great wins. I haven't looked at the numbers, but just from watching the Clipper games from time to time - they shoot A LOT of 3's. Caron shoots the ball almost every time he gets it. Wait until Billups gets back - they'll be way more dangerous.
What I've noticed from this season is that the Clippers are over the hype of alley oops and dunking every chance they get. Sure, Blake still finishes strongly, but he's really made sure to take of his shooting and back to the basket game. He might be a real superstar in the coming years if he continues at this pace.
Aside from shooting lights out, the Clippers have Crawford basically throwing up shots that he's simply not supposed to make. He's really playing incredibly. Anytime the Clippers are lost on offense, which is a lot of the time, Crawford bails them out successfully.
The Clippers FO did a great job of mixing in youth with their veterans to make a savvy squad. They are definitely built to wear out teams in the playoffs with their depth.
Imagine a playoff matchup where the bench involves Crawford, Bledsoe, Grant Hill, Lamar Odom, and Billups. If their bench was a starting lineup in the NBA - and healthy - they'd probably still be competing for a playoff spot.
Another HUGE plus for the Clippers has been DeAndre Jordan. Before, you just had to keep him off the offensive glass and disrupt the lob pass. Now, he's developed an offensive game. With his length, he makes it very scary to go up against, especially with a wide open Chris Paul and Caron Butler when you clog the paint against Blake Griffin and Jordan.
When defending the Clippers, you either have to clog the paint, holding your own against Blake, DeAndre, and any penetration from CP3 or Crawford. If you do this though, you give up numerous shots to all their shooters. Check out the Miami game, Caron was open all night. If you open up the defense and guard the 3 ball, you let CP3 work off the dribble and with Blake and DeAndre down low, CP3 will dish out double digit assists in very, very quickly.
Props to the Clippers. Hopefully they are eliminated before we have to deal with them later on.
