Posted ImageAtlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Lakers, Trade, Pau Gasol, Kyle Korver, Josh Smith | share sources maintain that Atlanta has not been enticed in the least by the prospect of parting with the 26-year-old Smith -- even as he heads into unrestricted free agency -- for the 32-year-old Gasol. The Hawks, for the record, have also been telling interested teams that they value Smith and what he offers as a hybrid forward in an Eastern Conference that's generally been getting smaller. Kobe and Randle led Lakers lead the team to a 32-50 record. the Lakers select Myles Turner with the 5th pick.

Once they dealt Joe Johnson just to get rid of his contract, I knew the Hawks wouldn't want Pau directly. They don't want to take in big contracts at this point.

Only specific kinds of teams would want Pau, ones that are trying to win now. If the Lakers don't want any players from those teams in return for Pau, a 3+ team trade is necessary.

Awesome!! Glad they came out and said it so Laker fans can stop assuming this trade would ever happen.

Why is anyone surprised? Atlanta is re-building. The last thing they want is an aging player with a toxic contract like Pau Gasol. It would've totally defeated the purpose of getting rid of Joe Johnson.

Not shocked...and it's not out of the question. Josh Smith can still be had...just not through a direct route.

Think "3-Way". I'd even propose a Pau to TOR - Barg/draft pick to ATL - Smith/Calderon to LAL trade that accomplishes everything ATL would need...

Bargs plays out which gives Horford room in the post.
Bargs is under contract for the next couple of years on a decent big man contract (10M/y).
Bargs is young (27)

Not saying this will happen but if they really are rebuilding, Bargs' contract is much more palatable than Pau's without giving up a lot of production and Bargs does something neither Pau nor Smith can do reliably...spread the floor.

I wouldn't either. I like Atlanta's new GM. Completely cleaned out their [expletive]ty contracts and started from scratch.

They're in a good position for some free agents next year.

And I don't blame them. A 20 million dollar declining player combined with a trade kicker wouldn't be an enticing option for me either.

I doubt Smith will stay in Atlanta.
His stock was supposed to increaste when he got promoted after JJ left, but it's having the opposite effect instead.
He has more possesions now, but his jumpshot and drive ratios are still the same.

They'll trade him eventually.

Surprisingly, rational Hawks fans in a Hawks board I visit are perfectly fine with having Gasol in their team.

I hope the trade talk does not effect Gasol on the court like it has in the past, he has not been exactly stellar recently as it is.You can bet that Gasol is looking forward to be shooting 3 pointers in MDT system though, so maybe that will offset him worrying about being traded....Gasol and MWP will be jacking up shots from the 3 point line every chance they get....

Yes Atlana is going to come and openly say YES WE ARE TRYING TO TRADE JOSH SMITH FOR PAU GASOL. Why do fans always take PR quotes as anything close to reality

Mitch Kupchack: " I believe we can win with the current team" (conclusion of 2012 year)... next minute "gets Steve Nash and Dwight Howard"

Regardless of what anyone says ANYTHING is possible as long as it makes sense in a way.

It would be a 3 way trade for Smith to come to LA, im not saying its going to happen. Im saying its an option, everything is an option. Honestly if someone said the "dwight howard" trade that actually happened before it happened I gurantee you about 99% of people would of said "are you crazy"? ORLANDO will never accept that? WTF IS wrong with you...

Same with Kwame and pieces for Pau.

If we do not get Josh Smith by the trade deadline it will never happen. He will most likely leave as a FA. I will bet the mavs or possibly the 76er's. If he does stay that mean the hawks wont trade him.

If he does get traded expect it to be for draft picks and youth.

I call BS on Atlanta's part. They're just playing hard ball, they really want us to include DJO.

Wasn't there a poster who said we weren't trading for Howard because the lakers insisted on keeping Morris and mcroberts
