The defensive numbers he's talking about is just dumb and deadly WRONG.
04/05 PHX: 17th in Defensive Rating, 1st in Offensive Rating
05/06 PHX: 16th in Defensive Rating, 2nd in Offensive Rating
06/07 PHX: 13th in Defensive Rating, 1st in Offensive Rating
07/08 PHX: 16th in Defensive Rating, 2nd in Offensive Rating

Wow...hadn't checked the stats.
One of the things that was lacking on those teams was the rebounding we have. With Pau, Hill and Howard, we could and should outrebound our opponents...that leads to more possessions. If we can do that and that alone, it will help keep the point differential at or near the top in the NBA.
That will give us time to figure out who we are on defense and implement a good defensive scheme. Any team that has a healthy Dwight going into the playoffs with homecourt advantage has a legit chance to play good defensively (when the game slows down to half-court sets) and win it all.

Keep things in perspective guys = we are not gonna be no Run n Gun team no matter what. Will the offense have a faster pace from time to time yes but dont get carried away with expectations before you even see guys perform under the other Mikes direction. If you in middle of pack on defense & outscore you opponent by 6-10 pts per game things will work themselves out come playoff time. Mike has never had a Kobe nor D12 on his roster to finally get him over the hump.
All we need is a good defensive coach now. Do that, get Dwight healthy and this team will be serious contenders...

"The West aint close, now that the LAL got Dwight, who gon stop him on OKC!????" - Chris Webber (nba tv -August)
Big 4s are OVERRATED. you think Nash/Kobe/Dwight cant carry the whole Offensive load!?
(Peace Pau we need pieces, not MettaWorldPieces!!!!!!!!)

I was looking up the numbers lat night and I dont know where you got these from. He was always near last in the league of opposing PPG which is pretty much the biggest determinate of how good your defense is.
I still think though our defense will be fine. Its not like MB was doing anything for our defense. Also theres not much you can do for defense but promote good switching and effort. That is pretty much defense. Cover your man, know who to switch to , and provide effort. Offense is much more in detail. We may not be #1 in the league at D but we will be up there.

Nash, Amare, Marion, Bell, Diaw, Barbosa. These are not great defensive players. They work great for his 7 second offense which I highly doubt we will be running but they are all pretty bad defenders.
When he was on the knicks he little defensive weapons also. Then finally when he started getting his team to win ten franchise traded everything for Melo. And then Melo decided to pull the same [expletive] he did on the nuggets and cry and [expletive] about how everything wasnt perfect. They werent that great of a team. They had a bunch a lazy players that just wanted to score.
The only real defensive player he had was Chandler and I truly believe he is really over rated. Guy has no hands and fouls out like crazy.
Give MD this team with actually players that are good have good attitudes and can actually play defense then you will see a major progress.
Everyone here is [expletive]ing about not getting phil but how could they accept that deal. Phil wanted everything and he didn't even want to work all the time. The buss family has given up a lot of money to make this roster and get a good coach. So when they look at a guy who is wanted all that money and doesn't even want to work full time you cant go with that option.
MD was the obvious choice after Phil. He is the best out. Sloan was not coming back also so I have no idea why people were saying why we didn't get him. There have been countless reports saying he has no interest in coaching again.
This is our coach. We got rid of MB and got a better coach plain and simple.
