Josh Smith is in the final year of his contract. He could request a trade and if the haul was Pau, that's intriguing.

The only problem is the salaries don't match...and Pau has a trade kicker.

Could happen and is much more probable...

Or instead of trading pau, Mike could make some adjustments to his offence maybe running some 4/5 PnR with pau and dwight and some of the other guys spreading the floor. A bit like this.



Combine this with some PnR with pau and Nash and some pick and pop and the occassional post up Pau can be very effective.

I was thinking, what if we have Pau Gasol come of the bench, and have Antwan Jamison roam around the 3 pt. line as a starting PF. With Pau Gasol off the bench, he would then be the main focal point of the PnR offense, when the starters are resting.

It all hinges on Josh Smith's demands as we approach the Feb deadline. If he hints to ATL mgmt that he does not want to come back as a FA next summer, then he will be traded. I know that Ferry and Kupchak have talked in the past about a Pau for Smith trade so it definitely will be revisited. We just need to make sure between now and then that Pau stays healthy and produces. Because the talk before was Pau for Smith+Teague. That is an extraordinary haul for Gasol, and I doubt we can get that if Pau declines.

Pau doesn't fit. If he stays D'Antoni's system might not work and therefor Dwight would leave. If we trade Pau and it works, Dwight stays. "Simple. Pau or Dwight will be gone."
