We'd upgrade defensively and downgrade offensively.
We have not even BEGUN to tap into Pau's potential in the P&R with Nash...
We better tap it fast before things get ugly here.

The biggest problem isn't Gasol, but the Lakers aren't going to get anything by trying to trade MWP or Blake. Heck, I doubt you find somebody that will straight up take them in a salary dump.
You gotta trade something of value to get something back.
Exactly. He is the only trade chip that can improve our team drastically. Pau will always put up good numbers statistically so he will always have value. The fact is we really need speed, defence, athleticism and 3 point shooting to be a true title contender. Only way we can get a quality player or players is by trading Pau. Ive always liked Pau but sometimes you have to sacrifice a good player for the overall betterment of the team. If we don't I'm not fussed but it will be difficult to upgrade our team otherwise. If Mitch can work his magic and improve our team by trading Blake,Duhon,MWP I'm all for it but that will be very very tough. Hope he can otherwise Pau is the most viable option.
We should have shipped out Gasol back in the 2011 offseason. Gasol has never been the same player after the "Fiasco Trade" and he has actually regressed. He is still a very good player offensively but I think he is really struggling defensively. Nowitzki ate him alive in the 2011 playoffs and he couldn't even outplay Serge Ibaka in the last playoff series vs OKC.
The biggest need the Lakers have right now is athleticism and age: Pau is everything but an athletic, physical player, so it would make sense to trade him for young athletic PFs regardless of their offensive capacity. We've got Howard as our primary post threat then we only need a stretch 4 (Jamison) and also an athletic defender and rebounder (Josh Smith, for instance). Therefore, the best move the Lakers can make is to trade Pau Gasol for a young athletic PF AND get rid of MWP as soon as possible.
I'm a Spaniard, I'm a big fan of Pau but I realize his time in Lakerland has come to an end.
I would be glad getting Howard's best friend Josh Smith I was with it from the get go. Smith gets buckets, plays D, can run the floor, chances down PGs, young, blocking machine. Plus, he is pretty damn good in the pick and roll and pick and pop

we have enough offense imo, plus josh smith can pass, rebound, block shot etc. pretty much everything gasol does. him being as good a post player isn't really needed considering we have D12 for that. We'd upgrade defensively and downgrade offensively.

When they run the Princeton correctly and consistently, Pau has been very effective.

Yeah true, but have to stop the other team from scoring too.

trading pau for josh smith just makes our collective B-ball IQ way less. i don't see anyone worth trading Gasol for

So you just want to trade Pau because you hate him and don't care if the team gets worse because of it.I don't care.

The Lakers don't even need to get the best player back in the trade. I would take a downgrade at PF to upgrade at SF. SF needs to be upgraded. Metta can't be relied on to do anything anymore.
