Regardless of how he's playing, the Lakers have too many needs and he's the only guy that makes sense to move. To me, he could be exactly the same guy that was great during the back to back championships and I'd consider still moving him.
This is a changing league. It's tough to win by being at a big speed disadvantage at 4 positions.

When Pau gets pwned by Kenneth Faried, Carl Landry, and etc, no one has anything to say. After his first disappearing act in the playoffs: "Let's give him a mulligan", after his second disappearing act in the playoffs: "But but but, he's a nice guy though."
Bottom line is that he's harmful to the team. He's late/slow on rotations (even if he's on time, he's too soft to do anything), he get's out-muscled and out-hustled far too often, He shoots too many jumpers; opposing teams will gladly allow him to do that as opposed to him working closer to the basket WHERE HIS TRUE TALENTS ARE.
You don't pay 20 mil for a 12/10 guy who's shooting 41% from the field; A SEVEN FOOTER shooting 41% from the field...think about that for a moment.

Pau Gasol went to the darn Olympics, you can't get in much better work and looked like a "beast" and played awesome.
Somehow between the Olympics and the start of the season he got out of shape... how...I have no idea...
So he had to run more etc during the season and get started and has thus far put up his worst seasonal performance as a main guy that he's ever had thus far.
This is the problem people have. Pau Gasol will dive on the floor for the ball in the Olympics yet a few months later comes in out of shape to the season and doesn't show much effort on the court. Like I keep saying, he seems to play like he doesn't want to be traded. And by that I mean he'll play mediocre till he feels pressure to play well, then he has one good game or one good quarter and disappears the rest of the game because he feels safe. Thing is, Mitch is watching him, if he struggles in D'antoni's offense all the excuses evaporate. And that's all people have had for Pau as to why he isn't the 2008 form anymore.
Metta worked his butt off in the off-season and is having his best season in a long time, despite the coach changes, despite being in different offenses, despite all the changes and drama around the area, despite all that Metta is having one of his best years and is outperforming Pau as the 4th/5th freaking option on the team because of Pau's descent.
There is no excuse for why Pau who is the 3rd main guy on this team still should have his shooting percentage drop 10 darn percent. There's just no excuse for it.
Everyone says "Pau's had to play through this and play through that."
Well then how come everyone else has been playing well despite all those things and Pau's game is the only one that took a severe decline? Pau should have been out of excuses last year.
If we somehow land Dwight Howard AND Nash (which is one of the biggest reaches I've posted, don't think that will happen), then yeah...I have no problem with it, because Howard won't allow anyone to take Nash off the dribble 30+ minutes a game.

But, I at least give him credit for being able to consistently produce during the last 2 seasons, even if he did play horribly during the postseason those 2 seasons.
I think he might be able to turn it around because of that. I just think the Lakers have bigger needs regardless.

Could Josh Smith give us 13/10 while shooting 41%?
Yes he could
Could Josh Smith give us better than that?
Yes he could
Would Josh Smith play better help defense?
Yes he would
Is Josh Smith capable of passing the ball?
Yes he is, he's underrated in that aspect of his game.
Would Josh Smith hit the mid range jumper about as often as Pau has this year
Yes he would. Pau is shooting 41% and that is pretty much or more what Smith could give us.
Do we also get an extra shooter for our bench if we got Smith?
Yes we would
Who does this benefit?
Mike D'antoni.
If we somehow land Dwight Howard AND Nash (which is one of the biggest reaches I've posted, don't think that will happen), then yeah...I have no problem with it, because Howard won't allow anyone to take Nash off the dribble 30+ minutes a game.

Alright look at the year MWP had last year? due to injuries etc. He worked his butt off in the off season and came into this year playing his best basketball as a Laker and has been a valuable asset.
How is this becoming about MWP again?
He looks better so far this season, but he hasn't consistently produced the last 2 seasons. I don't have as much patience with him because of that.
He doesn't look that much better TBH. He still has awful shooting games and has been exploited on D like the last 2 years.

You talk about consistency but you're in a thread defending Pau

My question is this when it comes to Josh Smith and comparing him to Pau.

Add these 2
26 years of age is MUCH better than 32 years of age
Josh Smith is best friends with Dwight Howard

Consistency over the years. Metta has put up horrible season numbers over the last few years.

MWP is shooting 38% from the field?
He's a career 40% shooter from the field. He's pretty much on point. Pau is a 51% career shooter and is shooting 41%.
The two aren't the same
If we somehow land Dwight Howard AND Nash (which is one of the biggest reaches I've posted, don't think that will happen), then yeah...I have no problem with it, because Howard won't allow anyone to take Nash off the dribble 30+ minutes a game.

42%
And he hasn't hit his career mark since '07-'08 when he shot 45% with Sacramento.
He's a career 40% shooter with LA though.
