Pau's definition of trying on defense

^ Take the slash out at the end and you should be good.

Works now ;)

And now I can be pissed watching it even more :)

Wonder why we've given up points in the paint.

Underrated aspect, some of our guys that can play defense do a fantastic job of 'leading' to the paint where help is supposed to be, but unless it's Sacre they don't get much of an effort to stop what's coming.

^ That was so DISGUSTINGLY awful. Dudes on the Denver bench were clowning on him too.

When D'antoni says

"We got guys making efforts, but we don't make a lot of multiple efforts."

I get the feeling THAT is what he's talking about but doesn't want to name names again.

Look at how the play unfolds.  Four Lakers play defense out of the 5.

Ty Lawson goes through after breaking Meeks ankles.

Kelly hedges him to keep him from going anywhere

Marshall turns to watch the ball in case a pass back out to the perimeter is made by the big who has the ball.

Wesley sees the big coming and boxes Faried out expecting the help defense to alter the shot.

At that point it's up to Pau to rotate over and stop the drive to make him force up a tough shot or pass it.  After the pass either Meeks is back on him, or Marshall follows the ball to Lawson and D's him up as the shot clock is winding down.

What happened was

Ty went after breaking Meeks ankles.
Kelly hedged him
Wes boxed out Faried
Marshall turns to watch the ball in case a pass comes out back to the perimeter he can switch.
Pau lets Mosgov go right by for an easy layup.

4 out of 5 Lakers did precisely what they were supposed to but one not being engaged defensively makes it all moot.    I saw SO much of this tonight it was sickening.   It was a breath of fresh air watching Sacre hedge correctly and make the Nuggets have to take contested or long jumpers because of it and then when Pau came back in the Nuggets went right back to attacking the paint on every play cause they knew they'd get no resistance and Kelly had to save Pau on more than one occasions actually leaving his man to help defense or alter a shot as Pau stood there with his hands up and his eyes closed and yelling.

Night and day.

It will be interesting who's the scapegoat next season, when Pau isn't here.

Pau saying we should focus on defense is like Farmar saying we should focus on moving the ball.

Pau is the best player on the team by a huge huge margin, and quite likely the only other player on the team that would start for any other NBA squad among many guys that wouldn't even make another NBA squad.  The amount of hate he gets is laughable with the consistent numbers he has put up on a team that has no clue how to make use of him and also just no clue in general.  When you are on a team that runs out Farmar, Marshall, Meeks, Hill, Sacre, Young, etc etc, still put up the same numbers you have your entire career and somehow manage to be the scapegoat as to what is wrong with the team, there is something wrong with the fan base.  Look at the names I just listed, not exactly household names to even casual NBA fans.  Pau Gasol is not the problem.  The Lakers staff and front office is the problem for putting together a sad excuse for a team like this, and a sad excuse for a coach.

Pau is the best player on this team, but as a big man , he does the things you want out of a big man, pretty bad

offensively Pau will still be a beast.

But any team that puts him as their rim protector in the future will get killed in the paint unless they have a defensive stopper at the 4 or the wing.

Bucher reported that Bryant included Pau Gasol’s name, which the reporter said “surprised” him. Bucher further pressed Bryant, asking how confident the five-time champion is on a scale of one to 10, that Gasol will be with the Los Angeles Lakers next season, to which Bryant responded “eight.”
