The Atlanta Hawks are entertaining trade offers around the league for forward Josh Smith, but have yet to decide whether they will deal the ninth-year forward, according to league sources. The Hawks met with Smith’s representatives this week, at which point the team indicated it was not willing to give Smith a max contract after this season, according to a source.

Smith, according to a source, is prepared to move on.

Yet the Hawks have not formally decided to trade the 27-year-old Smith, who leads Atlanta in scoring and blocked shots, and is second in rebounds and assists. Team president of basketball operations and general manager Danny Ferry is in fact-finding mode now, seeing what the market is for Smith.

I wish we could JS for cheaper than Max. Dwight, get your boy on the phone and let's work something out.

MWP won't go anywhere. Pau won't go anywhere(At least for now).

This whole thread is a pipe-dream.

Well, they need to do something. When (not if) Dwight loses another game we need someone other than Jamison and Earl Clark to guard the other teams' bigs.
If they dont want to trade Pau, fine, but then sign someone who can play defense.

Probably.

Pau WILL be traded in the offseason though. Unless Dwight walks.

True, he will. Which is why they might as well trade him now if they can. Some of the teams who'd be interested in Pau in the off-season, would probably be interested now as well. I can see why Utah and Atlanta wouldn't want to take on Pau now, since they're stil in the playoffs, but teams like Minnesota and Cleveland could just as easily take him now.

Traded for whom? Which players are available for whom you would give up a $20 million expiring contract? Kevin Love is the only realistic possibility, if Minnesota is convinced he won't resign and they just want the cap space. Otherwise I would just keep him and rebuild when he and Kobe are off the books. If they want to come back for significantly less money (and possibly a reduced role) I'd be happy to have them, depending on the coach and the new pieces.

MWP is almost completely untradeable, a GM would lose his job for taking his contract back unless he was getting rid of something even more toxic, which I can't think of many, and I certainly can't think of one that would improve the Lakers. Pau won't get traded for anyone good this season, he is worth a ton in the offseason and might get traded then, but that doesn't help the Lakers now. I personally would have amnestied MWP when I had my first opportunity, and I would keep Pau until his contract runs out and resign him for less or let him walk and use the cap relief.

Since we're playing Miami it got me thinking

You look at someone like Chris Bosh...Hes a perennial all star in Toronto, averaging 20/9 for his career, the primary option for them and he goes to Miami, he gets disrespected by the fans, the media and even by his own fans. He doesn't get many plays runs for him. He doesn't get the ball in his comfort spots on the floor. He gets ignored for long stretches of the game and shoots whatever is left over from Lebron and Wade and yet the guy goes out there and competes hard, he lays his body out drawing charges. I know hes soft, I know he can put up some weak shots but the guy at the end of the day competes hard in both ends and thats why hes helped his team get to 2 straight Finals and Gasol hasn't when seemingly Gasol is supposed to be the most skilled big man in the league. You dont see Bosh pouting and complaining that he doesnt get the ball in his sweet spots or gets ignored on the floor and stop competing. Guys like Howard, Gasol and even Bynum and Odom could learn something from him

Having Bosh at 4 would pretty much be a great fit for our team as he's near automatic from mid range and cna hit the occasional 3 and as little as people act like he mattered, the Heat don't beat -ndiana last year without him.

But then you'd be handing Miami an actual center(if you sent Gasol there) in which case they'd not lose a game the rest of the season. And putting Gasol at center in miami with their lineup, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what would happen.

According to ESPN the Knicks are looking at offers for Imam Shumpert. Perhaps a Pau-fillers for Amare-Shumpert would be possible. It does mean the Lakers take on salary, but we get pieces that fit as well as a young elite perimeter defender in Shump.

I dont want Amare's horrible contract any where on this team. That will put us in cap hell for years to come. We can do much better
