Here's one crazy idea.

That's high way robbery for the Lakers. We just give up Pau and World Peace and we get David West and Rudy Gay. No way in hell that happens.

we dont need Josh smith now that we have Earl. someone explain to me what this team needs Josh SMith to do,that earl cant.

Earl contests SO many shots at the rim, like every possible one.
Earl cuts on O,this is great for Nash
Earl outjumps people for boards ala Jordan Hill
no point in paying a player 10 more millions to do basically the same thing as a low-salary player.
TRADE PAU FOR WINGS.

Provide Starter mins regularly & produce. RIght now Clark is bright spot but as soon as Pau returns he will go back to "hoping for mins". Clark as much as you may like him is still raw & not reliable. Smith is a proven NBA player already thats not just reacting on court spontaneously like Clark is. HE knows game time situations already having played in all types of scenarios. Clark has not. Rather have proven established player logging heavy mins

it may sound crazy,,,but like i said, tell me what this team needs josh smith to do,that earl cant!!!!!

Earl Clark is a great hustle/energy player that adds depth to the bench. He's been a huge help to our decimated roster, but (even though the sample size is very small) I doubt that at any point he will average nearly 17/5/8 like Smith has this season. With Metta's inconsistency we need all the help we can get at the 3. He's frustrated with the Hawks and he's having a rough year, but maybe a change of scenery will do him good? It also doesn't hurt that he's best buds with the future face of the franchise.

no one has said anything that Smith does SO much better than clark, Smith isnt worth 10 more mil than Clark,on THIS team that is. sure he deserves that money on his own damn team where he needs to avg 17/8.

Clark and Howard contest shots at the rim like the best tandem in the league (one of the things smith would be brought here to do).(Clark contests everysingle shot possible at the rim)
Clark runs the floor and cuts on O which is good for nash (something Smith would be brought here to do)
Clark is an animal on the boards, he constantly outjumps players to get boards(ala Smith, and Jordan hill)
if Clark can hit some jumpers at a decent rate(which is still to be seen) then theres no point in getting josh smith.
sounds crazy, but the truth is, clark is the type of player we need at the 4,,,and itd be hard for a PF to give anything more with Nash,Kobe,Dwight on the floor.
btw @MurderCassette Smith is a PF,not a SF.

The Hawks have conducted trade talks centered on Smith with multiple teams, according to NBA executives.

I'm not a big fan of Josh Smith although I can't say I've watched him play a lot. My understanding is that he's a low IQ player and takes a lot of difficult fadeaways. With that said, his athleticism and defense would still be intriguing. And playing with his BFF Dwight with the potential to make some noise in the playoffs could be enough motivation to dial it in and unlock his true potential. A frontline of Dwight/Smith/Clark would lock down the paint and cover a lot of ground on the perimeter.

@MurderCassette Smith is a PF,not a SF.

He's listed as a 3 http://espn.go.com/n...2411/josh-smith

He can technically play both and with Hill out, we'll need another 4 too.

smith, like earl , is too good of a rebounder/rim protector to be more of a 3 than a 4. also, both players have more of an offensive advantage at the 4.

In the event the Lakers can pull off a trade, would pursuing Josh Smith limit Earl Clarks playing time? Or could Clark slide down to the 3?

Lets just say he plays the 4 since he's been doing that his whole career.

Can Smith hit the mid-range consistently...

It would be good putting Smith on guys like Lebron too. Tell him to focus all his Menergy on defence.

I don't think his jumper is his strength.

Hmmm I wonder if they would want a big expiring contract in a year. Man I wish pau's contract ended this offseason.
