The Mavericks wasted no time filling a need – and the roster spot that will be created when Delonte West is waived – by putting in a waiver claim for veteran NBA center Eddy Curry, a source said.
The deadline for finalizing the 15-man roster that will start the season is Monday. The Mavericks have until then to waive West, who is suspended from the team for the time being.
Curry, 29, was the fourth overall pick in the 2001 draft, the same one that produced Tyson Chandler.
The Mavericks could be without Chris Kaman for the start of the regular season. Kaman will miss the Friday preseason finale against Charlotte with a strained right calf muscle.
By signing Curry, the Mavericks will have a 16-player roster. But they are expected to jettison West, either by cutting him or finding a willing trade partner, before Monday’s roster deadline.
Curry was waived by the Spurs on Tuesday.

hes what the 2nd unit needs. someone who can shoot, attack and finish.. with Jamison playing the 3 in the 2nd unit, theres no garuntee that anyone in that unit will be able to create their own shot.. i know he will be interested in coming here tho, we have almost 20 mins to give him behind Nash, AND we can give him more minutes at the 2 , if Meeks isnt playing well on a certain night..

NBA teams can release a player to the waiver wire, where he can stay for 48 hours (during the regular season). While he is on waivers, other teams may claim him, for his existing salary. If he is not claimed, he is said to have "cleared waivers", and is treated like any free agent, able to sign with any team (with the special restriction noted above for players who were traded and then waived).

blake is horrible. meeks cant dribble for more than 2 dribbles. meeks has never played pg in the nba. delonte has played it for a whole season. delonte can be what he really is on this team, a scoring PG

ok vent over lol
If we somehow land Dwight Howard AND Nash (which is one of the biggest reaches I've posted, don't think that will happen), then yeah...I have no problem with it, because Howard won't allow anyone to take Nash off the dribble 30+ minutes a game.
You should reach more often

did you really just mention blake?
and meeks is NOT a combo gaurd! he cant dribble! hes strictly a shooter. and hes expanding his game to creating from the 3 point line but thats it. big difference from being able to handle it full court, or handle it for more than 2 dribbles, actually

geez why the heck are there so many "we should get this guy" threads!?!? It's not LAST SEASON =P We have a pretty good unit already!! we aren't in desperation mode already!!!!
ok vent over lol
i agree bro. BUT with Jamison playing the 3, is he gunna be able to create while being guarded by quicker defenders? im not confident from what ive seen. (i like Jamison alot at the 4)
our 2nd unit needs at least one player who can create...

West would be a major upgrade but at what risk though? he is a knucklehead that doesn't need to be on this team... I'm not even looking at him skill wise i'm looking at him attitude wise
