Dallas Mavericks guard Delonte West has been suspended for conduct detrimental to the team, Mavs coach Rick Carlisle said.

Carlisle did not specify a timetable for West's suspension.

via Sources -- Delonte West of Dallas Mavericks suspended for conduct detrimental to the team - ESPN Dallas.

The suspension reportedly stems from an outburst in the locker room by West after a preseason game in which he played only 16 minutes and scored just 2 points with 2 assists. Because, you know, if there's one thing worth getting upset about, it's the preseason.

West hasn't played a huge role on the Mavericks, and has had his fair share of ups and downs in his career. The temptation is to connect or assign this to his previously revealed bipolar disorder, but there's nothing about the condition which makes it impossible for him to control his behavior or act professionally.

And again... it's preseason.

The Mavericks have been patient with West, helping him find a house when he was sleeping in the locker room, sticking with him through some hard times. But at some point they may need to move on with the Delonte West experiment.

West re-signed with the Mavericks in free agency early in July.

This why when so many people were clamoring to sign him I thought it was a terrible idea.

The guy is a mess.

Clinical or not, there's no reason to sign on to that crazy train if you don't have to.

Mentally, he's obviously pretty [expletive]ed up, but as a player, he's still better than any back-up we have by far and that's not even debatable. Talking pure skill/talent here alone, no mental aspect weighed in.

yo.

Yeah but honestly he wouldn't fit at all with MB's philosophy when it comes to pre-season and everyone getting chances if the way he outbursted over the pre-season game is any indication.

Yeah of course, but if we're talking about right now it wasn't a good sign for where he is mentally.

They reinstated him btw.

Maybe he got mad at coach and banged his mom cus of it. Then announced it to the team after a second game with little minutes.

http://espn.go.com/d...ricks-suspended

The Dallas Mavericks have suspended guard Delonte West again for the second time in less than a month.

"We have suspended Delonte for conduct detrimental to the team," president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson said in a statement. "The suspension is effective immediately and no other statements will be issued."

The statement gave no reason for the suspension. Coach Rick Carlisle had suspended West for conduct detrimental to the team Oct. 15 after a locker-room outburst. The Mavericks reinstated West less than 24 hours later after he met with Carlisle and Nelson.

The team would not elaborate on the outburst at that time.
