Interesting, DeMar Derozan is sort of in the same situation. If he doesn't play well for Toronto this year he'll be a free agent with Tyreke.

Doesn't mean they won't resign him eventually. He'll be a RFA next year so they'll still have the option of keeping him

The coaches he's played under were absolute crap. Hes still a border line All star talent, just hasn't been able to put ti together since his amazing rookie year

Rookie season was great at 20/5/5, fell off 2nd year due to injuries, 3rd year wasn't too great once they moved him to SF. No clue what's in store for him this year, that team is just not a good fit for a guy like him. Too many guys who need the ball in their hands to be effective.

Maybe the Kings know he will never be more then the best player on a terrible team...

Tyreke is good but Im not sure if hes a good fit for our team right now, the guy needs the ball and he cant shoot at all or play any defense. He needs to get that Jumper together

No, he's unlikely to be offered an extension, which is the right decision.
He's unlikely to take anything less than the max if he gets offered an extension. If he gets an extension and stinks, Sac are stuck with an insane contract for 5 years
By letting him enter FA, 1 of 2 things happen:
He continues to not look very good, he realises his market value isn't as great as he thought it was, he gets offered a reasonable deal, he returns to the Kings
He breaks out, averages insane numbers, gets offered a max, Kings match, he returns to the Kings.
The only way he doesn't return to Sacramento is if he keeps up this "Solid stater but not quite all star" caliber play and some team overpays him by giving him the max. In which case, said team is stuck paying a 15/4/4 player the max for the foreseeable future. Sucks to be them.
This is the correct decision and I can't imagine a GM in the league who wouldn't do the same thing.
