Being the Lakers best bench player last year was nothing to write home about. And guess what? Our best bench player had a fragile body, crap attitude and disappeared in the playoffs two years in a row when he was needed the most.

his playoff performances were more to do with injuries, especially the first year. but yeah , i dont know if id want risk having him get injured a third time.

unfortunate though , the guy was the best cutter on the team and one of the few that played with heart on a regular basis. his craftyness and cutting ability even made blake look good sometimes lol. but overall , i agree, all that is useless if he isnt there or fully recovered when it matters.
Abdul-Jabbar told the San Francisco Chronicle last month he met Howard only once and that Howard expressed an interest in learning from the former Lakers captain but he never again reached out to Abdul-Jabbar.

‘He’s charming, he’s charismatic, very nice young man,’ Abdul-Jabbar said. ‘Maturity-wise, he doesn’t get it.’

Our preseason games, apparently he thinks they are relevant and we were going for the pre-season championship

I have them at second seed. He doesn't realize how much Howard will improve the team's TS% because of the defensive attention he demands. There's a difference there between him and Bynum, especially since Howard can also find the open man.

Pales in comparison? I guess he hasn't seen Hill play since he joined the Lakers. At least he said he sees us in the WCF and probably in the Finals

wouldnt it be awesome if some people could just be suspended from their jobs until THE REAL slaps them in the face.. im talking about most sports analysts...

Kobe and Randle led Lakers lead the team to a 32-50 record. the Lakers select Myles Turner with the 5th pick.

Putting them 4th is a bit of a stretch, but expecting them to have a few bumps on the way is probably correct. Hollinger also gives some sound arguments, though he underrates our bench in my opinion. He also thinks they will be "terrifying come playoffs" which is true and this is what matters, really.

I wouldn't be surprised if they end up with a 4th seed but then again, I wouldn't be surprised if they end up winning 70. The only thing that would surprise me is if we're not in the Finals.

If he says we're first in the Pacific but we finish 4th, then who's 1st, 2nd, and espeically 3rd? I can understand OKC and SAS but if we're first in the Pacific then that means the Clippers aren't ahead. So who is?

I understand his reasoning, except the bench. Losing Matt Barnes...BFD. We added Meeks and Jamison which will more than make up for the 7.8 ppg he provided. His field goal percentage was good and his 5.5 boards per game as well. But Meeks and Jamison is an indisputable upgrade from that from a scoring and depth standpoint.
But whatever, it's Hollinger. He always comes up with reasons why the Lakers will finish below popular belief. The Lakers could finish 4th in the west (I don't think they will) but it wouldn't matter. The only important things with this team are going to be building chemistry, an understanding for where guys like the ball and defining the roles, and above all, HEALTH. This team is undoubtedly the most talented in the league. Staying healthy and fresh for the playoffs is the key, I feel the chemistry will come pretty easily.
This is the year we take the championship lead away from Boston. Number 17 :81:

Hollinger misses another point: It is true that our bench isnt the best in the league, but it is better than last year, and in our case it wont really matter that much because we now have one more solid starter in Nash.

Last season, Kobe had to play 38 mpg, Pau 37 mpg and Drew 35 mpg, which basically means that we had to play a bunch of scrubs for 130 minutes per game.

This season, we can play Nash 30 mpg, Kobe 35 mpg, Pau 35 mpg and Dwight 35+ mpg. In addition to playing lesser minutes, all four will have more space to operate in which should increase their efficiency. Basically with Nash, we now have 4 all-stars who can play a combined 135 mpg, which leaves litte more than 100 mins to be played by our improved bench.
