Then there's that other guy on the Lakers who might become a free agent next summer.

With all the recent talk about Andrew Bynum's contract status, little attention has been paid to Kobe Bryant's possibilities after this season.

Talk about options. Bryant has many, all of which lead to a win-win financial situation for him.

First, the hard facts: Bryant will earn $21.3 million this season and then have two years left on his Lakers contract for an additional $47.8 million.

Now for the interesting part.

Key words: "After This Season"

Enjoy this year, take it all in. Don't worry about stuff that isn't relevant to right now. You can't change the past and you don't know the future. The only thing you have control over/can enjoy is the present - so do so!!

Kobe better take a pay cut because we still need to re-sign other players.

I doubt it'll happen, but imagine how much his image would improve if he takes a pay cut. He's already taken huge strides ever since the '04 drama.

kobe deserves to do what he wants, but I agree signing for significantly less helps the team, his legacy and its good PR for him as well
Again - this team, as currently constructed won't make it out of the second round of the playoffs, let alone the West or win the Finals.---fido on 2011 Lakers

He will take the pay-cute.. but if we are speaking money wise Kobe would get MUCH more in Europe.

IMO, Kobe SHOULD sign for less if Mitch can gurantee finding some more depth for the team, that will ice the team in the twilight years of his career in the NBA.

He's looking to win, not more money.

With Odom willing to take the pay-cut, and Kobe we hope do the same. We will be safe from all the signings for Gasol and others.

Odom taking a pay cut? It's one thing saying you're not opposed to it, but it's a completely different thing accepting that pay cut over offers with millions more...
