Considering that our option behind PF is Vlad Rad, the Lakers need to get some meat on the bench. Why not Josh Powell?

With the Free Agency being pretty horrible right now, shouldn't we go after him? Obviously there are a few players that are more sweeter to get, like Landry, but realistically they are unlikely possibilities. Powell is an option the Lakers can go to since he is unrestricted and he can help relieve a bit this season with our issue of the PF backup. When he has the minutes, he can play. His Game Log Last Season.

-_- :P :mitch:

He would be a great addition to this team. And a much better upgrade over Vlad. Although i was very mad to see Ronny go i am happy to see that the Lakers will be good next year and Bynum healthy. I just hope that they can sign the backup bigs that they really need. Powell would fit that need. Mitch should definitely consider this guy over Tractor Traylor who is going in for a workout tomorrow.

To be honest, this guy is probably a better rebounder than Turiaf, though he doesn't have turiaf's range. Do it Mitchell.
Gooden>> Lamar Odom. Mo Williams>> Ray Allen>> Gasol. Nene= Gasol.

guys, we have mihm, gasol, bynum as well as possibly DJ Mbenga to play the center spot with Mihm, Gasol, Odom and even Vladdy candidates to play at the power forward slot. signing powell to play 5-10 minutes a game makes no sense this year.

next year however mihm's contract is up and we can consider signing a quality backup for bynum/gasol at the 4/5

We still need another big. Mihm is useless...

We need Theo Ratliff.

Theo Ratliff or another big can actually contribute to the team unlike Mihm. :mitch:

Ratliff can provide defense and shot blocking. Mihm doesn't play defense.

Free agent forward Josh Powell will sign a contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, one source told HoopsHye.com.

-----

Confirmed by John Black.

Lakers spokesman John Black just confirmed that journeyman forward Josh Powell has been signed by the Lakers.

The 6-foot-9 Powell spent the 2007-2008 season with the Clippers, primarily as a backup forward. However, he started extensively late in the season, when starting center Chris Kaman missed 17 of the final 21 games due to an ankle injury.
