To all kindle owners, is there such thing as jailbreaking the kindle? So you can download free books?
These Kindles (Touch Android ones) run Android OS so you can root them, but you don't have to do that for free books. There's millions of free books out on the web.

Are you asking about the regular kindles? e-ink ones?To all kindle owners, is there such thing as jailbreaking the kindle? So you can download free books?
You don't jailbreak it but you can download free books. Download calibre to manage your ebooks and just search the web and you'll find tons of free books. Just make sure the books you download are .MOBI (Kindle format)
If an ebook happens to be in a different format you can also convert it with calibre to .MOBI

If you're gonna replace a laptop I'd go with a Nexus tablet either the 7 or 10 inch. You can pretty much do almost everything a laptop other than real heavy apps can do.
Kindle Fire is more locked down
I ended up just getting the Kindle Fire HD I like it so far I'm not a big tech person so it does the basic things I want.
