That's just crazy man. I can't imagine watching sports or anything in non HD. Pure madness.
I hate when I have my parents or girlfriend record something for me and its not in HD. Ugh, makes me wanna punch a baby

I'm another one of those people who had TW and switched to DirecTV. DirecTV may piss me off at times, but they're the best television provider I've ever had.maybe you have bad luck because i've had several different TV providers and not one has had better picture than directtv
and everyone i know that has had TW got rid of it in favor of directtv and hasn't switched back. Cable sucks, the HD quality sucks, i have cable right now in my dorm room, it sucks, cable has like 1/10th of the HD channels.
nothing compares with directtv. the only argument anyone can win against directtv is if you live in a harsh weather climate. everything else directtv is better. channels, picture quality, hd channels, sports packages, movie channel packages everything is just better. if harsh weather is the argument then get at&t uverse or verizon fios over cable.
Cable is the worst and i don't know why anyone stoops to that level.
Unfortunately Verizon FIOS isn't installed near my place so I'm forced to use their internet.

ya contract is necessary. if you don't have HDTV its probably not worth it anyways unless you want NFL sunday ticket which is the best feature because you get every NFL game. also the amount of movie channels is ridiculous
but the contract thing turns people off
Yep. The contract is a huge turn-off for me.
However, I do like movies and the NFL Sunday Ticket is intriguing to me.
too many cons to switch to satellite though

Not that big of a deal for me. When I visit my parents I always watch their HDTVs and I'm not exactly blown away.

Debating a switch to u verse from direct tv, cost significantly less than my tw internet + direct tv bill and with a 60 MHz HD vizio lcd not sure I'd notice a lesser picture. Updating my WiFi strength and speed would just be the cherry on top... Maybe they get the Lakers channel and Pac 12 network before direct tv too. Anyone out there with u verse experience that can offer up thoughts would be appreciated. Mainly concerned with sports viewing.
i had TW awhile back, but decided to switch over to U-verse since its a lil cheaper and TWC customer service is really horrible from my experience
i have had u-verse for about 4-5 years and its only average.....the TV has great pic quality and the internet isn't as fast as TW's roadrunner, but good enought to play games/download/stream etc.....
the gripe i have with u-verse is that both the internet and tv is connected to a main router and if that router goes out then both goes out...compared to other providers where there's a dedicated line for each....
their set-top boxes are pretty crappy (although i've heard that TW isn't great either) and they never want to give you a newer one even though the current one is broken...always an excuse that the boxes just needs to be reset...once they reset it, it's only good for about 1 week and then it gets messed up again
that's pretty much my experience with u-verse......different people may have different experiences......sorry abou the long reply, but i wanted to share it with the folks on here that are thinkin about getting u-verse
btw, i called u-verse today and they have no idea if/when they're getting the lakers channel.......so it sounds like they're not going to have it until later which i can't have because I want my Lakers!!

Directv needs to pay up.

That is the only part about directv that bothers me. The HD boxes. 100 dollars, 150 for DVR
Ridiculous
50 at most should be the price.

It's pretty dumb to tell you the truth. That is the only part about directv that bothers me. The HD boxes. 100 dollars, 150 for DVR

I remember them coming out and doing my HDTV setup feeling a few of my boxes were used and dated units. Not more than a month later the old looking box ( it was silver) died. Call them asking for a replacement they want to charge me another 100$ plus money to have a tech come out. Got out of it by signing up for the equipment replacement service. I canceled it after I got the new box.

Arash MarkaziVerified @ArashMarkazi
DirecTV rep told me, "We plan to carry TWC SportsNet in a way that is affordable for everyone." Not sure when, but they'll have a deal.
