If not, is the only way to have that channel is to be living in SoCal?

LOL. I don't get why people make videos like this.
I have a strange feeling that TWC could be behind videos like this. This kind of over-the-top desperation video has the possibility of going viral within the laker community and it would get all the young, clueless fan base to get all riled up--which in turn would get them to log onto iwantmyalakers.com to scream their heads off at Cox, Comcast, Dish, DirecTV, etc. if not scream at their parents to get them TWC. Cable companies are really evil, though, like most corporations... :/

Where will I be able to watch Lakers games?
Home and away Lakers games will be on Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes in the Lakers territory. The Lakers territory, designated by the NBA, includes all of Southern California, Nevada and Hawaii. Some games will also be available via national broadcast.
Will I have to get Time Warner Cable to watch the Lakers?
While Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes will certainly be carried by Time Warner Cable, discussions for carriage are underway with all satellite, cable and telco distributors in the Lakers’ territory, which includes all of Southern California, Nevada and Hawaii. That includes Dish Network, DirecTV, AT&T Uverse, Verizon Fios, Charter, Cox, etc. These networks are available to all of these carriers and the negotiations are a standard part of the launch of any new network.
If I don’t subscribe to Time Warner Cable, how can I let my provider know that I want to watch the Lakers on Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes?
You can call your local cable, satellite or telco provider and let them know that you want them to carry Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes. You can also go to iwantmylakers.com to fill in your zip code and provider information and send a note to your provider.
When will the new networks launch?
Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes will launch on October 1.
Will this affect national broadcasts?
No. Games will continue to be broadcast nationally on ABC, TNT, ESPN and NBA TV. NBA League Pass is unaffected by this agreement and all the same blackout rules that have applied in the past are still in effect.
Will all games home and away be shown on Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes?
Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes will show all locally available pre-season, regular season, and post-season Lakers games. There will continue to be exclusive national broadcasts during the regular season on ABC and TNT and on ABC, TNT and ESPN during the playoffs. The majority of Laker games during the 2012-13 season will be shown only on Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes.
Will Lakers games be available via over-the-air broadcast?
No, they will be available via Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes. Time Warner Cable will carry these networks, and discussions for carriage of the networks are underway with all satellite, cable and telco distributors in the Lakers’ territory.
Will Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes have online streaming?
Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes are employing the latest technology to give fans on the go the most current coverage and updates in English and Spanish. Both networks will feature live in-market game streaming to personal computers and mobile devices, and an integrated interactive social media experience catering to the unique passions that make sports a community activity.
How far will the signal for Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes reach? Will I get the networks where I live?
The networks’ broadcast territory includes all regions that previously broadcast Lakers games. That area stretches from Fresno County to the north to San Diego County and Imperial County to the south. It also includes Hawaii and Clark County, NV. Full list of CA counties that can receive Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes: Fresno, Imperial, Kern, Kings, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Tulare and Ventura.
Will the same broadcasters and pre-game and post-game talent be used on the new networks?
Lakers broadcasters Stu Lantz and Bill Macdonald will call games on Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Adrian Garcia Marquez and Francisco Pinto will call games on Time Warner Cable Deportes. Other on-air talent decisions will be handled closer to the actual launch of the networks on October 1st, in advance of the 2012-2013 season.
Will all the games be shown live?
Yes, all games will be broadcast live. There will also be replays of games shown on the Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes.
What are Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes?
Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes are two new regional sports networks. There will be extensive Lakers content including behind-the-scenes, personality and classic programming and a primetime Lakers news and magazine show throughout the season, but there will be other programming on both Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes as well. The networks are the new exclusive local homes of the Los Angeles Lakers, LA Galaxy and Los Angeles Sparks, as well as CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) high school regular season and playoff contests.
Why are these new channels better than what I watched before?
This is the first time in history that all locally televised Lakers games will be available in one place. Beyond live game coverage, these networks will feature a daily programming schedule to give local sports fans comprehensive in-depth coverage, fresh opinions and behind-the-scenes insight into the Lakers and Lakers personalities. Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes are a 24/7 commitment to give fans more access and insight than they have ever seen before.
What channel number will Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes be on?
This information will be announced closer to the networks’ launch.

only time I get to watch LA play is when it's nationally-televised on ABC/ESPN and TNT and sometimes online (which I hate).
would be nice to have a laker channel so far from LA

If they pick it up its not for one market, its for their subscribers.
So no, it's a concern for all users of DirecTV or Dish Network.

If I lived in LA, I'd just have Comcast and be done with it
You dont get it. Time Warner paid 4 billion for exclusive rights to Laker games. So that means if you dont have TW, you dont get the game, period.

Like everything else, "exclusive" means that carrier had the right to sell the channel to other providers. They are negotiating. Other providers will have the channel when it's said and done.

Satellite TV providers are nationwide, not local.
If they pick it up its not for one market, its for their subscribers.
So no, it's a concern for all users of DirecTV or Dish Network.
This will be a regional network though. Regional networks aren't available nationwide unless you pay a premium for a "sports package".
I don't think TW will offer this channel to any subscribers outside of their coverage zone, unless they offer it in a sports package like other providers offer regional networks like YES, MSG network and the major Fox Sports networks in sports packages.
