First, the sales numbers on a jersey like this would skyrocket just like the white ones. The white uniforms accounted for around 35 percent of the shares in 2009, the white uniforms actually outsold the Laker's away jerseys. (Just look at all the white jerseys that dominate Staples Center, compared to the purple aways)

Imagine if the Lakers introduced an alternate black jersey, to occasionally wear on "big time" sunday road games.

How intimidating would the Lakers be marching into T.D. Banknorth Garden with a dominating black, trimmed with traditional purple and gold?

Now many "traditionalists" are probably screaming their lungs out right now, but remember it's not a complete jersey overhaul. The Lakers' away purple jerseys would still dominate for much of the season, but a touch of black here and there would not hurt.

Again to those traditionalists, the Lakers have changed the design of their jerseys five times since moving to L.A. Most would agree that those changes have ultimately made the Lakers' uniforms better.

Change is indeed good. As we head into the next decade, a fresh, black alternate jersey for the Lakers would do wonders.

Remember the white jerseys were designed by Jeannie Buss, symbolizing a tribute to the late Laker's PA announcer, Chick Hearn. Well, Kobe is the Black Mamba and is only fitting we make a black jersey as a tribute to Kobe.

What do you guys think?

No. Leave the black uni's for squads that need to psyche themselves into playing "hard."

I would not mind this at all.

It'd be too dope to use these on the road in some of our better matchups, like Miami and Boston.

This.

Lakers have too much rich history and too classy to stoop to Sacramento and Mia(I believe they both have and wear these when they play us). Let's march into OKC and South beach reppin purp, gold, n white. Show em w/ royalty looks like

I'd love to see those blue/white jerseys they rocked a few years back.

Or the gold/baby blue MPLS jerseys.

It's not about playing "hard" or history. It's about MONEY. The fact is the team will gain lots of it from releasing these jerseys or whatever version of it. Adding an unofficial title to it like saying these jerseys will pay tribute to everything Kobe has done for the organization will just be a plus. And history? History is not in the jerseys since the Lakers have changed it or modified it 5 times since moving to LA and perhaps you haven't been aware, the white jersey sells more than the purple away jersey.

It's not like we are going to dump the purple and gold, adding to history is always good. We certainly add legends to the rafters can't see the big problem in adding an alternate jersey for a couple of years.

I'm don't care if theyve changed to 5 diff versions. I'm talking about the history of their colors. Black is this new-age trend that these aspirining franchises are coming up w/. Would the celtics add black uni's?
... And they've already released black jerseys, but adding them into the fold and wearing them is gross too me. And I mentioned in my earlier post that I was good w/ the white. Now a seperate tribute to Kobe would be cool, but I don't care to see the entire team in black.
