USADA to strip Lance Armstrong of 7 Tour de France titles, ban him from cycling for life - @AP

Declaring "enough is enough," Lance Armstrong says he will not fight charges brought by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, a stunning decision that will cause him to be stripped of the seven Tour de France titles that turned him into an American hero.

USADA confimed late Thursday it will strip him of all results since Aug. 1, 1998 and ban him from all competition for life. Armstrong said his decision did not mean he would accept USADA's sanctions. His lawyers threatened a lawsuit if USADA proceeded, arguing the agency must first resolve a dispute with the International Cycling Union over whether the case should be pursued.
"It is a sad day for all of us who love sport and our athletic heroes," USADA CEO Travis Tygart said. "This is a heartbreaking example of how the win-at-all-costs culture of sport, if left unchecked, will overtake fair, safe and honest competition."

This is sad. It's too bad you can't do what you want in your house, Lance.

USADA cannot assert control of a professional international sport and attempt to strip my seven Tour de France titles. I know who won those seven Tours, my teammates know who won those seven Tours, and everyone I competed against knows who won those seven Tours. We all raced together. For three weeks over the same roads, the same mountains, and against all the weather and elements that we had to confront. There were no shortcuts, there was no special treatment. The same courses, the same rules. The toughest event in the world where the strongest man wins. Nobody can ever change that. Especially not Travis Tygart.

Well said.

No news of proof has come out yet but it must be heavy if they are taking all title away.

so much for innocent until proven guilty? i feel lik there has to be something more conclusive than other guys saying so if they're going to strip his titles...

Yeah, I'm waiting for actual concrete evidence to come out. If that doesn't happen, there should be some sort of demand and outrage.

It's been said that Armstrong was a bully in his own team and with other cyclists. And that he avoided controls as much as he could...

It was pretty smart to avoid appealing the decision, the majority of people thoughts still think Lance is innocent (which is completely stupid but whatever), his sport image is and should be tainted but his image overall will always be positive because of the impact he has had on raising so much money on cancer.

Crazy. Cycling is a drug riddled sport however. Not saying he's guilty but there is a probability he did cheat. I think the biggest punishment for Lance if he did cheat, is that he would have to live with the lie for the rest of his life.

I just hope he isn't innocent considering the damage they have done to his character and public image.

It looks pretty clear that he is not going to be declared innocent. They must have proof before taking a decision like this.
