BAMA
Georgia
Texas A&M
LSU
Florida
South Carolina
I think Notre Dame and Vandy might be a good match-up.

ND would be about #7 in the SEC.

I don't know if that list is in order, but if so it needs to be rearranged.
The SEC is so dominant. People keep crying about a playoff system, but that won't change anything. It will still be ruled by the SEC.

The order is irrelevant.
The point (that you seem to get) is that the supposed #1 team in the country heading into last night was not only a significant underdog in the championship game, but would also have likely been no better than the #7 team in the conference that its opponent won.
ND dictates essentially its entire schedule; and as the balance of power has shifted increasingly more to the SEC, ND's schedule has suffered accordingly.
So, they get to play cupcakes all year, handle them mostly without breaking much of a sweat, and get lauded for having a stout defense. Their defense looked like Kentucky's last night.
Even Georgia, who played a pretty soft schedule by SEC standards (toughest two opponents were SC and Florida, and they split those games) and was a considered a questionable representative in the SEC title game, put up a great fight against Alabama.
