They've been trying to get rid of him all season by looking at Payton in the off-season, then they signed him to only 1 year and then subsequently replaced him with Kaepernick. He was definitely playing well, and was it unfair? Maybe, but that's the business, and nobody can deny that Kaepernick has way more potential then Smith.
If he goes to a team with a solid defense and some decent weapons (Arizona!!), dude can make some noise
