I'm a computer noob. I need help ordering the right external casings for my hard drives. My old computer died awhile ago, but I have TWO hard drives that I want to keep. Please tell me what kind of external casings I have to purchase in order to work these puppies again!

Thanks Vong. So does this mean I can order any 3.5" & 2.5" external casing? Do I need to know anything else?

I dont know much, but I asked my friend and this is what he said:

9:12:12 PM: he can just

So yeah you can just look at 2.5" & 3.5" cases. If anyone can see if what I am saying is correct, that'd be great.

I don't know if the casing is just that -- a case, so you may want a SATA/IDE-to-USB connector.

Hmm... thanks for all your responses you guys.

Kinda hoping for someone to give me a CLEAR and DEFINITE answer on this. Maybe even post a link to the exact external case I should order. I don't need two casings... I basically need to get the files off of these puppies onto my other external HDs.

My suggestion is to punch in the type of hard drive you have into amazon and usually it will come up with covers for it. Thats how I usually do it cuz then it will tell you if it is compatible with the size. But even if you mess up they arent that expensive unless your getting one with cooling but you would only need that if your uploading like over 30 gb at a time allot which would really only happen if your a movie editor or something. I would look it up for you but Im lazy haha. But it really shouldn't be that hard. BTW I started really understanding computer components and what not after I was doing stuff like this. Its never a bad thing to understand computer stuff.
