If Kershaw undergoes the surgery he might miss 1st month of 2013 season

Love 'El Cochito''s music too though I'm sure most of you here for obvious reasons are unfamiliar with it. Tamborazo FTW!

WASHINGTON -- Clayton Kershaw says he wants to pitch again this season, but the Dodgers aren't banking on their injured Cy Young Award winner riding to the rescue over the season's final two weeks.
"Yeah, I'm going to try to pitch," Kershaw told USA TODAY Sports before the Dodgers doubleheader Wednesday at Washington."
That a day after Kershaw saw hip specialist Bryan Kelly at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York and was told attempting to pitch through the impingement of his right hip would not subject him to further damage.
"Dr. Kelly feels that Clayton can continue to pitch if pain allows," the Dodgers said in a prepared statement. "However, Clayton will not be allowed to pitch if he continues to have hip pain."
Kershaw shed little more light on his status â?? in fact, he has been reluctant to talk at all after reports in Los Angeles last week indicated hecould need surgery that would sideline him until next May. Kershaw refused to talk Tuesday with a Los Angeles Times beat reporter as a result of the reports.
Manager Don Mattingly couldn't add much more, partially because Kershaw has the right under the collective bargaining agreement to control what health-related information is released.
"He's starting a throwing program," Mattingly said, though there are nospecific plans for when Kershaw would move from flat ground to a mound. "We don't know where that's going to go. He's going to try to throw every day and see where it goes."
Kershaw briefly played catch at about 40 feet with first baseman Adrian Gonzalez before Tuesday's first game.
"He needs to be able to do everything he normally does without any pain," Mattingly said. "We don't know if that's going to happen at all. It's kind of up to his body, really. If he can get without pain and he can throw, he wants to pitch."
That's not likely to be imminent â?? almost certainly not in time to fill ahole in the rotation for Sunday night's game in Cincinnati, an opening createdby Tuesday's rainout and Wednesday's subsequent doubleheader.
Mattingly said his only options for Sunday are John Ely, Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Year who's made two relief appearances for the Dodgers,or asking one of Wednesday's starters â?? Aaron Harang or Josh Beckett â?? to pitchon short rest.
As for Kershaw, his message remains succinct:
"It's just day-to-day, try to pitch and see how it goes," he says. "I'm just going to try."
