[Kobe>Jordan]

I can make very compelling reasons to why Kobe Bryant is better than Michael Jordan.

1) Kobe Bryant is a better scorer than Jordan. 81 points in one game. Kobe also scored 62 points in three quarters. It took Michael Jordan's 4 quarters and one overtime to get his best game of 69 points.

2) Kobe Bryant is more fundamentally sound than Jordan. He is more skilled. Even Phil Jackson stated this.



3) Kobe Bryant plays in an era where #2 guards are longer and more athletic, with guys that come in as defensive specialists, where teams constantly double pass the 3 point line. Jordan played in an era where #2 guards were shorter, less athletic, and teams allowed him to play one on one more.

4) Kobe Bryant is more clutch. He has hit more clutch shots than Jordan has to date.

5) Michael Jordan is arguably a better defender. But Kobe is also a good defender. This is the one aspect that Jordan has an edge over Kobe.

6) Kobe is crossing out Jordan's records one by one. And Kobe has records Jordan could only dream about.




7) Kobe has faced tougher teams in the Finals. MJ came from a watered down era where Magic was way past his prime and Bird was either retiring or gone. Now a lot of this has to do with the expansion teams. If you think about it the talent pool just wasn't there in Jordan's era. Good case and point here:



Just some aspects to chew on in this debate. I think Kobe is the GOAT already but if he gets one more it seals the deal.

im a huge avid kobe fan but i still believe he is not better than jordan.

Statistics say a big difference. I saw jordan in his rookie year till he retired. Same with Kobe.

I still say hands down jordan wins.

Kobe actually has a better offensive game than Jordan did. Jordan was a lot better defender than Kobe was.

He was one of the most athletically gifted players to ever play the game, and one of the few that was equally as skilled and fundamentally sound. When you can dominate on both ends of the floor and show up in the big moments as often as he had throughout his career, it's almost unquestionable.

I love Kobe, he's my favorite player of all time, but Jordan is simply the most complete player the NBA has ever seen.

Disagree, but before I try to poke holes here, Ill say first that I never followed the Jordan era, I was too young to appreciate, but I have read a lot about the guy, seen a lot of his highlights, old Bulls games footage, and and know most of his big time accomplishments just by memory.

1) 81 and 63 in 3Q was historical. But you wanna talk about scoring? Jordan led the league in scoring 10 times...10 to Kobe's 2 (maybe 3 by seasons end) Also I believe MJs highest PPG output was 37 a game to Kobes 35, and of course, MJ hit at a higher percentage.

2) Fundamentals and Skill? I think both of them are closer than most people think...though I would say Kobe has farther range and hits tougher circus shots more than MJ.

3) Agree Kobes competition is pretty stiff, but isn't that why MJ dominated the league? because he made opposing guards look so bad compared to him? I think Clyde Drexler was the closest to him and with him it aint even close.

7) Again I was too young to follow 90s NBA, but you cant seriously say that. 91 Lakers was a 60-win team, 93 Suns with Charles Barkley, 96 Sonics with GP? and the Stockton-Malone Jazz teams? The only team I can see hold a candle to those teams are the 08 Celtics and the 04 Pistons.

Just for arguments sake Im of course a huge Kobe fan, but as far as chasing MJ...hes the closest, but it's not close.

Word for word what I was going to say...

Jordan was an amazing defender, glue guy, amazing passer, efficient scoring, and just about everything that makes a team go. Kobe Bryant has had his amazing offensive games and can play lock down D whenever he wants (when he's angry, when he wants to win, etc) but I saw Jordan playing that D at all times. Jordan also had great court vision (even though Kobe has definitely shown flashes of his), and Jordan was always taking good shots. Just my opinion... Kobe is great too, but Jordan is and always will be my GOAT choice.

Another reason I think that is overlooked by the casual fan on why MJ is considered GOAT? how he took the league to new heights. NBA was down and out in the 70s til Magic and Larry sparked interest again...and MJ just took it to another level. That's impact off the court. He became a brand, global icon and the gold standard for today's NBA Superstar. The whole "Weve Never Seen Anything Like Him" deal. His entire career played out like a freakin story book. I don't know if Kobe is seen in that same light.

Of course on this forum everybody is biased lol. But I remember an article by a psychologist who suggested that whichever player played earlier in these arguments always will have the upper hand in the public's eye. That's because people get so used to that player holding that position as number one or the greatest that they refuse to allow anyone else in their head or part of another generation take over that title. So much that they only remember the good and forget every negative thing about the guy. The article was about how olders refused to admit that Montana was better than Unitas but it definitely applies to this argument as well. Just comparing their games, Kobe's a better offensive player. You can't give Mike the edge on defense because he was allowed to hand check. So we'll never know who was better on defense. But I think if Kobe was allowed to hand check, and had Jordan rules and the country behind him instead of against him, he definitely be considered the greatest.

I havent seen that last video in a very long time where you find that? Evolution = players can only get better through time who put in the work ethic to become gr8! Its a harsh reality people need to accept, but most cant allow themselves to just say Kobe is better.

It's a valid comparison, but Kobe needs at least a couple of rings to surpass MJ.
