Since the beginning of the year the effort the team puts in defense is visible.. most of our losses have been because of bad offense, but our defense has kept us in most games.
Only 3 teams Chi, boston and philly have lower points allowed.

Our pick and roll defense has been much better than years past and the effort Gasol and Bynum are putting is very visible..

Are we better defensively now than under the Phil Jackson era..

During the 2009-10 season, LA was a very good defensive team. But it seems like this season, they don't have that many defensive lapses and their intensity is better. As you also pointed out, they are defending the pick and roll better because the bigs are showing out more. Considering that this team has aged, I would say that they are a better defensive team under Mike Brown.

The inconstancy is Gasol who tends to fall asleep, It is not just of defense he also fall asleep on cuts to the basket ..

Sometimes watching gasol makes me cry, no wonder Mitch looked to trade him for CP3
