In other news involving NBA big men, a source said Wednesday that Minnesota continues to pursue a possible trade for Lakers forward Pau Gasol, dangling rookie Derrick Williams, who is from the Los Angeles area, and draft choices. The only players considered untouchable by the Timberwolves, who are seeking to add a veteran by the trade deadline, are Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio. The Timberwolves believe it could be enticing for Gasol to play on the same team as fellow Spaniard Rubio.

No Love, no Pau. But Williams and draft picks + fillers (Ebanks, Morris) can be used to acquire Deron in a three team deal, but NJ ain't trading him unless Dwight says no to NJ. Hmm.......

I think we wouldve taken one of the PGs over Williams if we had done that deal way back. We would have still had Odom and Williams is more a 4 than a 3, so I would have rather taken Brandon Knight or Kemba. Knight/Kemba-Kobe-Barnes-Love-Bynum would be a nasty starting 5

Pau/Ebanks, Cleveland 2nd to Minnesota

Anthony Randolph, Ramon Sessions, Derrick Williams to Lakers

Michael Beasley, Darius Morris, Lakers 2nd to Cleveland

Hell we might be able to even pull a draft pick as part of the deal from someone and create even more assets while retaining a good, young core.

We'd be left with (assuming we can pick up JR Smith):

PG - Sessions, Blake, Fisher
SG - Kobe, JR, Goudelock
SF - Barnes, Artest, Walton, Ebanks
PF - Williams, Murphy, Randolph
C - Drew, McRoberts

That's a pretty good team right there and you still have Drew, 2 first rounders and some depth/contracts to move to Orlando in a Howard trade and then potentially NJ for D. Will - but if you swing and miss on both of them you still have a solid, young team.

What do you think?

This is way different than the CP3 situation. CP3 and Hornets wanted to part ways. Deron is not leaving NJ and they are not trading him unless Dwight is dealt.

Maybe, but NJ has no motivation for that deal until Howard is dealt elsewhere and if he's here with us, we likely won't have the same set of assets to send out as in this trade.

I like any trade that gets us deron Williams from the nets. If
Love and Rubio aren't available, then nothing from Minnesota entices me
