So i think that the pace of the game back then is an important factor, if we want to be precise about how bad those 110 points were for the Sixers defence.
The Lakers as a (Western Conference) team had a more fast paced game than the Sixers and the Sixers even when they won in the series they didn't manage to keep the Lakers from getting 100+ points.
In addition, the output of the Kareem-less, (even) more speedy Lakers that the Sixers faced on Game 6, manage to increase the defensive ppg of the Sixers from 106,8 after Game 5 to 109,5 after Game 6, by scoring 123 points.
The Sixers were a good defensive team back then and in my oppinion what gave us the edge was that we had a good defence too plus they couldn't find a way to keep up with the Lakers fast paced game.
