The most important thing about this video is the name "John Gilchrist" because, honestly, athletes need to know about him. He was one of the most talented guards to come out of college in years, a projected top three pick at one point, with the potential to have more of an impact than Chris Paul, Deron Williams, and Raymond Felton (the three premier PG's in that draft class).

Unfortunately, it was his attitude, on and off the court, that led to him falling from that top three pick...to completely undrafted. In that final season, he called out his teammates, played like garbage in the tourney (many say he tanked), missed practices OR just didn't go 100% in them (said to usually be the last one up and down the court running deep 6's, which is uncalled for, being the fastest on the team), and called out his coach numerous times.

Gilchrist is probably one of the worst cases I've ever seen regarding a player's attitude destroying his potential. Some get over that hump (Ron Artest and Von Wafer are two, Wafer was lucky to be drafted, but this is just me selecting two Lakers -- former or present), and some don't...but Gilchrist was special, my favorite player in college basketball at that time despite being on a team I wanted to see fail, and just as talented as CP3.

Gilchrist had actually commented on the original YouTube video, but I couldn't find it just now.

It was something along the lines of him not condemning the actions in the video and it was a mistake of his youth.

That's not surprising. I think he had an interview where he admitted he ruined his own career, apologizing to his teammates and coaches at Maryland, and fans that were pulling for the team that particular season.

Too little, too late, though.

I wouldn't say Von Wafer has ever gotten over his amazingly bloated opinion about himself and his game.

That's true, but I was mainly speaking about his actions in regards to fighting his teammates (and that includes the incident he had in one of his practices with the Suns, when he elbowed Jan Jagla and walked out the door). Wafer was lucky to be drafted. The suspension he had over at Florida State was rumored to be about more than just missed classes, and even back in HS, there was talk that he left Pineview HS for more reasons than just his basketball "career" at that time, but I never heard anything else about it since.

John Gilchrist was such a disappointment, and its funny cuz Steve only got hit when another player had gotten between them and I'm sure he couldn't see the swing coming.

Why did the fight start though? It seemed like a pretty small boxing out situation really.

Haha, my bad...I always mute videos as I find listening to music far more important than it, so I just watch. Thanks though!
