sooo he just signed a $3 million deal.

and to put that into perspective Drake only received $2 milli when he signed to Young Money.

And his mixtape is (finally) dropping this Monday on Halloween.

Drake received a $2 million advance. That is incredibly different from what the deal could have been for. If they gave him a $2 million advance, they knew his ish was going to sell like hell and he probably got a better deal that just $2 million.

Just as hip-hop was gaining traction without stupid crap this guy and Tyler come along. I want to like Tyler so much. He's hilarious. He's a terrible rapper. It's garbage. It is so amazingly stupid I can't even fathom putting it into words.

He says shocking crap with no flow, not too much of any meaning behind it and dresses differently than we'd expect a rapper to.

This dude seems like he has simple ass rhymes and his content matter is all the same. Let's go get high and drunk and I have swag from all this cocaine I imported (no you didn't)

Also have you listened to bastard in it's entirety. If you listened you would not think Tyler is just saying shocking stuff. Tyler isn't a great rapper but he produces his own beats and writes his own songs. Bastard was a great album. I encourage you to listen to it. Especially parade, slow it down, ass milk, bastard, seven, and inglorious

And how was it not gaining traction? Look at the subject matter of mainstream artists 3 years ago and before to the music now. The subject matter is getting better and more thoughtful. There's hardly any gangster type presence for the newer hip hop artists. Drake doesn't have that crap. J Cole and Wale aren't trying to front as gangsters. These guys are getting played on the radio. Alot.

there is nothing wrong with gangster rap. it was the answer to the 80s debacle of music. gangster rap was a protest. there is nothing wrong with it IMO

J. cole is getting radio play and thats good, but that doesn't mean anything because young money is ruling the airwaves and they are everything the 80s music scene was about. dressing ridiculous, making meaningless music, and sounding generic.

i don't believe hip hop is getting anybetter. 3 years ago there was kanye, jay-z, and Nas. now there is kanye, jay-z, and j. cole. still around the same amount of mainstream conscious rappers compared to the overwhelming amount of meaningless.

what tyler the creator does has meaning. he isn't following what people are doing. he's doing his own thing, he's pissing people off, he's attacking people. ya his lyrics are ridiculous and sometimes just shock value but his desire to shake things up is something people aren't willing to do.

young money rules radio and until that ends the genre will suffer. Jay-Z and Kanye have said it many times how terrible hip hop is right now and how kanye doesn't even listen to hip hop in his house. jay-z talked about underground rock and how its probably going to take over hip hop.

for proof all you need is to look at the Carter IV sales. if hip hop was fine that mediocre album would have only sold 200 thousand copies in its first week.

Don't expect anything super-lyrical. I'll be the first to admit that as a lyricist he's very mediocre but I listen to his stuff for his flow, the atmosphere he creates, and mostly the STELLAR production he gets.
