Lakers Blog: EL SEGUNDO — It remains to be seen whether Phil Jackson is nearing the point of pulling the plug on using Lamar Odom as a primary ball-handler, but Jackson said after practice today that part of Odom’s problem is having two roles in the offense. Through two exhibition games, Odom is averaging 1.5 points, 2.0 assists and 2.8 turnovers in 18 minutes per game.
Given that Jackson said late Thursday night that Odom will “find his way,” there remains hope that Odom can take some of the dribbling load off Derek Fisher and Kobe Bryant. But Jackson said Odom switching between bringing the ball up as a guard and running the floor as a big man assigned to sprint toward the post has been difficult for him.
This shouldn’t be any sort of shock. Odom has done both roles in the past and struggled with it. How much did he struggle?
He committed the unimaginable turnover one time a few years back of dribbling the ball inbounds in game.
The explanation (if there can be one): The big men or wing men in the offense make the inbounds passes; the guards dribble the ball up. Odom has done both at different times.
Jackson: Odom confused by dual roles

Phil just needs to give him one role and stop changing his role every year.
He's had experience with both roles.
He's 14.1 mil player.
Are you seriously saying Phil should limit LO to one task because more than one is too confusing for LO?
If I'm understanding you right, wouldn't that mean that Pau shouldn't even CONSIDER passing the ball. Just post up and score.
Or Kobe shouldn't even CONSIDER facilitating...just score. No post up, just shooting...no dribbling, just scoring.
I NEVER call people stupid because stupid implies the INABILITY to learn but if you TRULY believe it's PHIL'S fault, you MUST think LO is stupid.

I forgot to add that he doesn't change roles.
He takes duties away and gives him a SIMPLER role. EVERY YEAR.
When you get down to dribbling and running to the post, that's not triangle offense...that's Basketball 101.

@ all of you clowning on Odom... he's a laker.. have some respect.
Respect the Lakers. Get rid of a player who can't walk and chew gum at the same time...
The LAKERS are the flagship of the league. LO belongs on Jackie Moon's team, not Kobe Bryant's.

It's a "What have you done for me now" league. If Lamar can do that down the stretch, great. But he has been a major disappointment thus far.

1) Lamar has failed at every role given to him in the triangle offense, and Phil has now given him his easiest role yet, as a fourth scoring option, not even facilitating, actually
2) Odom is starting material, just not in the triangle offense
3) Odom's potential has been reached. This is his tenth season in the NBA, which makes him a veteran player, technically
4) the last time Odom led anyone to a win, it was when Bryant was sidelined back in 2004-05, and Odom was the only other player who could score...and that was our worst season since the early 90's
5) I feel bad for Odom's personal mishaps, but I'm not his family member or best friend, and he's getting paid eight digits to perform for 82 games
The next step is to bring him off the bench, which to me, is a poor decision. Instead, he needs to be dealt as soon as possible, preferably now...but before the end of the trade deadline, at least.

Let's get something straight about Lamar, something that many of you aren't understanding:
Real Deal for the WIN!!!!!
