yeah go ahead and delete the files. All its doing is deleting the corrupted registry files. If you feel paranoid it asks you if you want to save, and you can save the files before.this is what it says after the ccleaner finished...

You could restore Windows to a previous state, so if there is a rogue in your pc it would be inactive. Then you could start in safe mode, scan everything with a spyware and delete what it finds. Afterwards, clean the register with CCleaner.

If u have a rootkit, malwarebytes would pick it up. I've used it forever and it finds EVERYTHING. I'm assuming it's updated to the latest definitions.anyone have any experiences with rootkits?

ok
after a long process with microsoft support, the issue is resolved.
they had someone remotely access my computer and then the rep did something (plus restarted my computer) and everything seems resolved now.
I hope everything is resolved...
